Protests in Venezuela[edit]

@WMrapids: Hi. Thanks for helping out with Venezuelan topics, such as those about history. I think it's probably better to just call this article "Protests in Venezuela", since it would allow to include demonstrations that had a bigger historical impact: the Generation of 1928, the 1936 Saint Valentine demonstrations [es], the national oil strike [es] the same year and of course, those demontrations against Marcos Pérez Jiménez, including those during his last weeks.

With a glance, I also think this is a good example of why WP:RSAGE is important, such as when considering Bamrud's 1988 source. Human rights violations took place, but not to the scale that happened during the dictatorship of Marcos Pérez Jiménez or the Bolivarian Revolution afterwards. @NoonIcarus: Regarding concerns with naming, I was attempting to organize the articles by titling with "Protest in [insert Venezuela's Republic title]", so other articles could be Protests in the United States of Venezuela, Protests in the State of Venezuela, Protests in Gran Colombia, etc. Does this seem appropriate? It seems that the Republic of Venezuela has been alternatively called the "Fourth Republic of Venezuela", but that seems very wordy for a title. WMrapids (talk) 17:31, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@WMrapids: The thing with said name is that they reflect the official names of the country, political changes at best, but not a change of system of government. Venezuela has always been a republic after its independence, unlike European countries that have a way longer history and said distinctions would make sense (such as the Roman Kingdom, the Roman Republic and the Roman Empire). The Fourth Republic of Venezuela really started in 1830, after its split from the Gran Colombia, because it is the succesor of the First, Second and Third Republics.

If we're talking about the Venezuelan historical periods, some of their common names are the Conservative Oligarchy (1830-1846), the Liberal Oligarchy (1847-1858), the Yellow Liberalism (1870-1899), the Andean Hegemony (1899-1945), the Military Junta (1948-1958), the democratic period and the Bolivarian Revolution. We'd have to see if there is enough content to warrant the creation of each of these articles, but for the time being it's probably best to have a main article to include them.

With that being said, could you provide a rationale of the removal of source content about demonstrations that have been more historically important than the current ones? We should take WP:NOTNEWS into account too. --NoonIcarus (talk) 12:52, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
