other examples of proto-cities[edit]

it would be good if we can find other examples of proto-cities.Dapiks 23:11, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

a further good example seems to be https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Los_Millares

definition of proto-city[edit]

could the author of the article please quote where a proto city is defined by a "lack of planning and centralised rule"? or has the author created an own definition?

An agricultural Village is also defined by a "lack of planning and centralised rule"... so one would need at least an additional size criterion to distinguish a village from a proto City...

there is talk of "both rural and urban features" and a "true city" without any definition of what this means... so it's just words and not much sense or rather guess work.

Unfortunately in Wikipedia one is not allowed to develop own thoughts... so I stop here, waiting for what others have written already about the topic... --HilmarHansWerner (talk) 02:30, 17 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Added several new sections and rewrote existing stub[edit]

Hello! I've rewritten the existing stub and added several new sections with references. Hopefully this addresses some of the issues mentioned here with the stub, particularly with the definition of a "proto-city" - this itself seems to be a matter of extensive debate in academia so I've added a "Controversy" section while trying to keep the definition simple. I definitely agree that more examples would be good, especially examples of proto-cities from all around the world. --Bing.rburns (talk) 08:38, 26 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
