History[edit]

I'm curious to know whether any primary evidence exists to support the beliefs that the Lordship was built in 1471 and that it belonged to the Prebendary of Barlanark / Lord of Provand. The first belief seems to trace back to Nisbet's System of Heraldry, and the second to McUre's View of the City of Glasgow. Neither Nisbet nor McUre were modern historians, and neither cited their sources in this instance. An 1889 study failed to locate any primary sources supporting the popular story of the Lordship's origin and concluded that it was actually a secular tenement dating to the latter half of the 17th century. Newer and better research may have disproved this theory, but it would be nice to see it if so. Zacwill (talk) 16:41, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
