@Elinruby:, no, it's not; or at the very least, it's insufficient. I wouldn't have been able to tell you that a week ago, but this deep dive into glossary building has been (and continues to be) very productive. Mostly only A – D are done, but there are a few P's and scattered others, and I happened to have done partie civile recently, and just updated it. Just plain plaintiff wouldn't come close to explaining it in a definition, however if there were a whole section where it had been defined and explained, then rather than repeat the long version every time, in that limited context, plaintiff would be sufficient as clearly referring back to the previous explanation. Or, you could combine it with a slash, if there were a long section, and it wasn't used again until further down, so then maybe something like "and the victim/plaintiff can initiate a request with the investigating judge..." or similar.
