English names of holidays[edit]

Are these supposed to be literal translations of the Slovak name or are they supposed to be what the holiday is called in English? I think that since this is an English encyclopedia, the translation should only be used as a fall-back when there is no name for the day in standard English usage.   — Chris Capoccia TC 22:07, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

They are supposed to be literal translations (this includes calling the Eastern Friday "Good Friday" etc.), because the details of official names of holidays suggest what they really mean to the country. The 8 May, for example, is not called "Victory Day in Europe" in Slovakia (while the "Victory Day" in France IS called "Victory Day" in Slovak texts etc.) Juro 22:26, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe the "English Name" and "Local Name" columns should be switched, and "English Name" changed to "English Translation".
