Content accuracy[edit]

The name of the model that gave rise to the Carnegie-Mellon University (CMU) Software Engineering Institute (SEI) Capability Maturity Model (CMM) is the Software Process Maturity Model. This, the first model arising from the DoD-sponsored work at the SEI, was published in document form in 1987. In 1989, it was published as a book. Given Crosby's reputation, perhaps its foolish to believe that those who worked to develop this SEI model were not influenced by him. But is not correct to refer to Crosby's work as a precursor, or to imply that it is a parent to the the CMM.

If changing the content to reflect this assertion is a good idea, I will provide the citations. At the moment, I'm out of time but plan to return another day, to look for direction.
