Request to update 'History' section[edit]

Hi! In an attempt to clean up this article, I would like to suggest some changes in it starting from the 'History' section. As noted in my User page and above on this Talk page, I have a conflict of interest in this subject as part of my ongoing work at Performics.Convonix. Due to this, I will not be editing the article directly, and instead will be requesting changes here to volunteer editors. Thank you for all the help in advance. Please feel free to get in touch with me in case of anything.

I'll start with changes in the 'History' section as noted below (along with references for each paragraph) -

Current: In August 1943, Ratnakar Bank(formarly named as) was a regional bank in Maharashtra with two branches in Kolhapur and Sangli. It used to serve to the small and medium business merchants in the Kolhapur-Sangli belt. In August 1959, the Bank was categorised as a "Scheduled Commercial Bank" within the meaning of the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934. RBL Bank was referred to as NH4 Bank since most of its occupation was limited to the cities in the 1,235-km highway National Highway 4 that connected four of the 10 most dense cities in India.

In July 2010, Ratnakar Bank introduced Mr. Vishwavir Ahuja as the Managing Director & CEO. The Bank now has a management consisting of qualified individuals in the field of banking, finance, agriculture and other related fields. Since then, RBL has had some noteworthy investors such HDFC Limited, Gaja Capital, Norwest Ventures, CDC Group Plc, Aditya Birla Private Equity, IDFC SPICE Fund, ICICI Lombard General Insurance, etc.

Suggested: In August 1943, Ratnakar Bank was founded as a regional bank in Maharashtra with two branches in Kolhapur and Sangli. It mainly served small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and business merchants in the Kolhapur-Sangli belt. It was incorporated in Kolhapur district on 14 June 1943 as ‘The Ratnakar Bank Limited’.<ref name="ET History">{{Cite news |url= https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/rbl-bank-ltd/infocompanyhistory/companyid-7750.cms|title= Company History - RBL Bank Ltd.|first= |last= |date= |accessdate= February 15, 2019|website=economictimes.indiatimes.com |publisher=[[The Economic Times]]}}</ref>

In August 1959, the bank was categorized as a "scheduled commercial bank" as per the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934. During this decade, it was referred to as an “NH4 Bank” since most of its services were limited to the cities in the 1,235-km highway national highway 4 that connected four of the ten most-dense cities in India. In 1970, it received a banking license from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).<ref>{{Cite news |url= https://www.business-standard.com/article/finance/ratnakar-bank-from-nh4-to-nh8-112112300028_1.html|title= Ratnakar Bank: From NH4 to NH8|first= Somasroy|last= Chakraborty|date= January 20, 2013|accessdate= February 15, 2019|website=business-standard.com |publisher=[[Business Standard]]}}</ref>

In July 2010, Vishwavir Ahuja took over as the managing director and CEO of the bank. On 26 August 2014, the name of the bank was changed to ‘RBL Bank Limited’. The rebranding was carried out to appeal to the new-age customers and stakeholders. The same year, SEBI gave it the status of a merchant banker.<ref name="ET History"/>

Request to renameadjust sections, content omission[edit]

Hello! Further in my attempt to clean up/expand this article, I would like to request a few suggestions. As noted before on this page, I have a conflict of interest with this article. Hence, I will not be editing it directly. Here are the suggestions:

  • Move the forth paragraph starting "In the 2010s,..." and ending "...1680 Cr." to a new section that can be titled "Investments" or "Funding".
  • Explanation: The content is more relevant under such a heading.

  • In the "Operations" section, remove the following lines of content:
    • As per the alleged result declared in the year of 2014-15, RBL had a balance sheet growth of 49% and a 4-year CAGR of 70%.<ref>{{cite web|title=Annual Report 2014-15|url= http://rblbank.com/pdfs/fi/Annual-Report-2014-2015.pdf}}</ref>
    • Advances and Deposits increased to Rs. 29,449 crore and Rs. 34,588 crore, respectively. The Net Profit was Rs. 446 crore. The Bank’s Cost to Income ratio is 58.6% in FY 16 and 53.4% in FY17. Return on Assets (RoA) and Return on Equity (RoE) is 0.98% and 11.32% in FY 16 and 1.08% and 11.67% in FY 17 respectively. The Bank’s asset is shown by a 1.20% Gross NPA and 0.64 Net NPA.
    • Then rename the section as "Financial performance". The newly created section "Investments"/"Funding" can be placed below this.
  • Explanation: Unencyclopedic content about the subject's financial performance. Pruned content is relevant under the new heading.

  • Move the line "RBL Bank has a network of 342 branches and 488 ATMs in 20 Indian states and Union Territories as of June 2018.<ref>{{Cite news|url=http://www.livemint.com/Industry/BiT9QQn2qhJZ7f428aTewJ/RBL-Bank-now-among-Indias-10-most-valuable-banks.html|title=RBL Bank now among India’s 10 most valuable banks|last=Sonavane|first=Ravindra N.|date=2017-04-10|website=www.livemint.com|access-date=2017-06-27}}</ref><ref>{{cite web|title=RBL on Linkedin|url=https://in.linkedin.com/company/rbl-bank}}</ref>" to a new section titled "Operations".
  • Explanation: Encyclopedic content that is relevant under "Operations" and requires further expansion.

  • Move the three bullet points to a new section titled "Initiatives".
  • Explanation: Relevant to such a new heading.

  • Rename the section "Reception" as "Awards".
  • Explanation: More appropriate heading.

Please let me know in case the suggestions are incorrect or if there's a need for more information. Thank you. Convo Agent One (talk) 09:09, 28 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Clarification needed.[note 1]

___________

  1. ^ It likely will be unknown to readers of the article at the outset whether the section titled Investments refers to the bank's investments or to its customer's investments. This needs to be clarified.
  2. ^ Any type of evaluation of a performance is done by comparing the performance against a set of expectations. Naming the subsection as Financial performance would center the information contained in it around this expectation of an outcome indicator, i.e., the performance of some financial aspect of the information — such as whether or not that performance met expectations. This type of activity is not the purpose of the article (or if it is, it's a function already performed by the communication of financial statistics in the infobox). In any event, the article's main text should not focus on the evaluation of financial performances suggested by this subheading's title.
  3. ^ This portion of your request could not be implemented because it involves a previous request which was held in abeyance pending further clarifications. (See note #1.)
  4. ^ As the Operations section was not renamed, the asked-for changes in this section of the edit request are already in the article.
  5. ^ Initiatives connotes that these items were performed by the subject bank first. The practices of offering lines-of-credit, education supporting financial literacy, and the use of social media to transfer money were not pioneered by the subject bank. Also, Initiatives is a synonym for Operations. As the section continues to be named Operations, moving this text to a newer section is not necessary.
  6. ^ This section was omitted because the award listed therein, the VCCircle Financial Services Company of the Year award, is not independently notable in Wikipedia. For an item to be independently notable it should have its own Wikipedia page.

Thank you for implementing the valid changes, Spintendo. I appreciate it greatly. I will suggest more changes that will further help us improve the article. Convo Agent One (talk) 07:43, 29 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Request to Update #3[edit]

Hello! This is a follow-up to my previous COI edit requests. Following are my suggestions -

  • Create a new section titled "Financials". The term roughly translates to "financial situation of a company".
  • Move the following part from "History" to the newly created section "Financials".
Extended content
In the 2010s, RBL Bank reportedly raised Rs 4,000 Cr, from investors. The Bank raised Rs. 700 Cr in 2011, Rs 376 Cr. in 2013, Rs. 328 Cr. in 2014[1] and Rs.488 Cr in 2016. In July 2017, RBL Bank received board approval to raise Rs 1680 Cr.[2]
  • Move the following part from "Operations" to "Financials".
Extended content
Over the last three years,[when?] RBL has gross capital of around Rs. 1,460 Cr. In the year 2015-16, RBL registered a profit of INR 292 Cr.[3][4]
  • Add the following content at the top of "Operations"
Extended content
RBL Bank services large corporations, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and agricultural, retail, and low-income customers.[5]
  • Create a new section titled "Stock market listing" or "Initial public offering" and add the following.
Extended content
RBL Bank made its stock market debut on 31 August, 2016 with an initial public offering of INR 1,211 crore. It received the highest subscription (at 69.62 times) in that time among IPOs of private sector banks. It is listed on both National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).[6]

Please let me know in case of any queries in the requests. Thank you. Convo Agent One (talk) 11:30, 31 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Reply 31-MAY-2019[edit]

  1. It was previously stated that a financial section was not ideal, in that naming the subsection as Financials would center the information contained in it around the expectation of an outcome indicator, i.e., the performance of some financial aspect of the information — such as whether or not that performance met expectations. This type of activity, whereby the financial health of the company is discussed, is not the purpose of the article (or if it is, it's a function already performed by the communication of financial statistics in the infobox). In any event, the article's main text should not focus on the evaluation of financial performances suggested by this subheading's title.
  2. "RBL Bank services large corporations, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and agricultural, retail, and low-income customers." This proposed sentence conflicts slightly with the second sentence of the lead section.
  3. The information regarding the bank's NSE and BSE status is already listed in the infobox.
  4. The date of the IPO is not confirmed in the provided source.[a]
  5. WP:Refill did not suggest any changes.

Regards,  Spintendo  14:32, 31 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Notes

  1. ^ The source, which is dated September 1, 2016, only states that the IPO took place "last week", which would place the date at around August 25, rather than August 31.
Reply starts here:

1. Referring a good article where such a section has been added. Is there another way to add such information even if it can be decided that it should be added?
2. Sure. I suggest removing that line completely from the lead and adding this new line under 'Operations'. Since the lead section is the summary of the entire body of the article, I figured this should be added in the body too. The lead can be rewritten once the entire body has been cleaned, revised.
3. Per WP:INFOBOXREF, the content inside the infobox should be mentioned anywhere else in the body. This is the reason I suggested a separate section. Plus, this information could change in future, so a separate section might always be useful for readers.
4. Providing a new source that clearly mentions the listing date as August 31, 2016. Please use the following:

Request to Update #4[edit]

Hello! Suggesting a separate section for two independently notable awards the subject has won. Please consider adding this under a section titled "Awards and recognition" or a suitable alternative.

Extended content
1. Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award - Financial Services (Vishwavir Ahuja)[3]
2. IDRBT Banking Technology Excellence Award - Best Bank Award for Cyber Defence among Small Banks[4]

Thank you for your assistance. Convo Agent One (talk) 11:13, 4 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Reply 04-JUN-2019[edit]

  Edit request declined

  • The Ernst and Young EOTYA is achieved by an individual, and not necessarily by the company employing that individual. This claim would be more appropriate in an article on Vishwavir Ahuja.
  • The IDRBT Award may be mentioned in the IDRBT article, but it is not referenced there by sources independent of the subject.
