This article needs a lot of work. I corrected the basic biographical fact about him, that he was not a priest mentioned in the Bible, but rather that he was a rabbi circa AD 150. — Loadmaster 16:04, 3 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pi[edit]

The article implies that his hypothesis about the biblical nature of Pi has some inherent truth, i.e., "he explained away the common belief that the Bible defines the geometric ratio π (pi) as being exactly equal to 3". However, no proof is cited other than the fact that the modern "hand" has been generalized to 101.6 millimetres. Kings has enough ambiguity in it to cast doubt on his theory. The article needs to make this ambiguity more clear. I question the neutrality of this article. --Sambiun (talk) 23:05, 8 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

For one thing, it doesn't matter how long a "handbreath" or even a "cubit" is, because the Biblical description of the "molten sea" (metal bowl) mentions its diameter (10 cu) and circumference (30 cu) in cubits. Another thing is that since the good Rabbi bothered going to the trouble of explaining how the extra handbreath was needed to make the ratio come out right implies that there must have been some discussion of the Biblical account in his day. — Loadmaster (talk) 02:09, 9 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
