Untitled[edit]

This talk page is being used as a temporary "sand box" for collaborating on a new article. If no one else gets around to it, I will probably write the new article in a day or two, after other folks have had a chance to add any research they may have. --Brianyoumans 23:24, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Facts and Links[edit]

(The first two links below I just copied from the AFD discussion.) --Brianyoumans 19:12, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Variety reported on the existence of "Splat" as a program hosted by Johnson. [1] (registration may be required).
  • Another article in the Boca Raton News [2] confirms that and says "Splat" was an interstitial program (which might explain why it does not show up on regular schedules) and hosted by Johnson.
  • Splat - this is the Splat homepage on the Nick.com site (which I found by a link from a message board). The show supposedly airs summers, Monday - Friday 5-7. Rahman is the host; there are also 3 'team captains' with bios. The host bio on him says he has "appeared in a movie with Denzel Washington".
  • In association with the Jacksonville.com article below, it seems credible that Rahman performed in a Theatre Jacksonville production of "Once on This Island" in the 1998-9 season (an online talent agency resume for Rahman claims he performed in it.)
  • Jan. 2000 Article on Rahman and his early career.
  • 2000? Text about Johnson's campaign for the S&WC board.
  • August 2000 - Johnson a delegate to 2000 Democratic National Convention
  • Dec. 30, 2000 Article on Johnson's rocky relations with the S&WC board, their censure of him, etc.
  • Jan 2001 Johnson named one of 30 (black) Leaders of the Future by Ebony.
  • Jan. 2002 - Johnson running for city council; Johnson censured by fellow Soil and Water Conservation board members over issue of unauthorized cell phone account/usage.
  • March 2002 - "City Council candidate Rahman Johnson is mentioned in Ebony Magazine as one of Jacksonville's up-and-coming leaders."
  • March 19, 2002Florida State Ethics Commission press release (among a list of other items): "The Commission also found no probable cause to believe that RAHMAN JOHNSON, Supervisor for the Duval Soil and Water Conservation District in Baldwin, misused his position to obtain a cellular telephone at a tax exempt, reduced, City of Jacksonville contract rate."
  • May 2002 - Johnson abandoning city council run, running for state rep.
  • September 2002 Johnson comes in 3rd in Democratic primary for state representative, district 15.
  • Jan 2003 Johnson is one of two leading men in a production of Miss Evers' Boys by Stage Aurora, a new professional theatre company in the Jacksonville area.
  • current - Johnson serves on the board of directors (size 30) of Guardian of Dreams, essentially a booster organization associated with two Catholic elementary schools in Jacksonville.
  • current? Johnson was appointed to the "Mimi and Lee Adams Environmental Advisory Board"; his term expired in May 2004. The website is badly out of date, so it is impossible to tell whether he has been replaced, or whether the board is doing anything. Normally it adjudicates the award of several yearly environmental prizes to Jacksonville citizens and businesses.
  • Sheena - This Sheena fan site lists Rahman Johnson as appearing in Episode 20, "Unsafe Passage", as one of 6 'co-stars'.
  • I have been unable to verify some of Johnson's film, theatre, and TV credits. Unless he is working under a different name, it is quite clear that he has not had major film/tv credits, since his name does not appear in IMDB. Can anyone provide verification for "First Time Felon", for instance?

Notability[edit]

With his election to the Jacksonville City Council, I think Johnson finally has enough notability that his article is safe. As I may have pointed out in the deletion discussion many years ago, claims made by Johnson need to be verified. His current council bio, for instance, claims that his book "was named Book of the Year by the American Library Association". Actually, it was given an award for best black self-published poetry ebook by the Black Caucus of the ALA. Brianyoumans (talk) 00:56, 11 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
