Cleanup[edit]

This article could have so much more. Ravenswood is a massive development in the area. I feel that the article could be expanded by far, so many projects are in place at Ravenswood. In its current state I think that the article needs some attention. There are various artworks and landscaping pieces that are worthy of having pictures in the article. Done. The article looks much better than when the tag was added. More work on it couldn't hurt though, also a photo of the terminal building would be good. It's one of the more important buildings there IMO, is it still under construction though? Thanks for your work, be careful if going near a playground with a camera. Most of it's up now -- at least at the Northern end - I'll see what I get, although I obviously don't want to hang around taking photos of the building once it gets fully occupied. Co-Op / discount store[edit]

My understanding was that there was going to be a Co-Op, and a discount store (Aldi?), which is how I interpreted the punctuation in the article? I'll see what if I can dig out something to cite one way or the other (feel free to beat me to it :) Ratarsed 21:00, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, hello again. You must be local! (thanks for the Alton Water pic btw) When I edited the article, I read it as Co-Op; A discount store. The semi-colon to me looked like the co-op was a discount store, which it most certainly is not. There will be / already is an Aldi on the site AFAIK. The unit has been pre-let to Lidl (as apposed to Aldi) -- the pub has been replaced by the MacDonalds, and other pre-lets have gone to Subway, Wokswagon and Fish n' Chick'n. Looking at the restrictions on the planning permission, there is a limit of 3 restaturants or cafés in the bank facing Nacton Road and 2 Financial serrvies (including bookies). This leaves 4 empty small units unaccounted for, of which one can be finance related, the remaining must be general shops (A1 use) (see also: Town and Country Planning (Use Classes) Order 1987)

Dwelling Figures[edit]

According to page 8 of the housing availability report and the 1997 Draft Local Plan implies that the dwelling figures of 1,200 is the first five years of development on the site -- doing some rough calculations of 25 dwellings/hectare (the national average[1]) and 87 hectares (the whole site) gives 2,175 dwellings. Now, comparing the "yet to build" figures from last year to the road layout from today, implies there's a lot more to do.

What I believe is the case, is that the current section of Raveswood (as mapped on the Raveswood Assoc website) is the first 1,200 with more to follow later on. Maybe I'm wrong, but it'd be interesting if we can identify what all the road stubs on the outside of Alnesbourne Crescent are for (and Fen Bight Circle, for that matter).

The housing figures refer to areas of Ravenswood by alphabetic character, yet I cannot find any other reference to them anywhere to prove or disprove my theory. Does anyone else know any better?
