Fatty Spins

there isn't mention of FattySpins what so ever why is this? Ericdeaththe2nd

Because it isn't noteworthy, nor is it really relevant to Ray's career. It's one of a dozen different documented projects he's tried over his five years online. There's also no mention of his first Youtube vlogging channel on this Wikipdedia page. Why? Because it isn't noteworthy, and he didn't really go anywhere with it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.89.180.85 (talk) 07:59, 27 May 2012 (UTC)

Your Favorite Martian Album and Ray William Johnson's TV show production

Ray recorded a Your Favorite Martian Album and there is no new word on it and a little bit before he went to record it he said he had 2 TV shows in production. The wikipedia page says he still has a full crew and he no longer does, he works in his apartment again with no crew and is living with girlfriend. If proof is needed the last 2 videos he has on 10/16/12 and 10/19/12 are applicable. Not done for now: Can you provide third-party sources to cooperate your "long awaited" statement? How is it a notable part of internet content creator's life? 117Avenue (talk) 06:32, 13 December 2013 (UTC)

Still getting used to wikipedia editing, BTW. Although the section has been added I wanted to answer the request for 3rd party sources. I honestly meant long awaited by me, but I think a lot of other fans also were waiting for it. First IMDB uses "long wait" (not long awaited) here http://www.imdb.com/news/ni56281489/ and they are quoting TubeFilter from this article: http://www.tubefilter.com/2013/10/09/ray-william-johnson-riley-rewind-release-date/. I realize they're not using it in the same sense I was, but what's it important is that it should be included "long awaited" or not. Also in the IMDB profile http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2944454/?ref_=nv_sr_1 it has a rating of 8.4 at the moment. There's also an article on GeekBytes http://www.geekybytes.org/watch-riley-rewind-ray-william-johnsons-awesome-sci-fi-web-series/. I don't know if any of these pass the third party source bar. Derickito (talk) 18:04, 20 December 2013 (UTC)

IMDb is not a third party source, it only cites the fact that Riley Rewind exists, it doesn't establish the notability, the section needs to be expanded. 117Avenue (talk) 05:55, 22 December 2013 (UTC)

It's arguable that he "starred" in Riley Rewind. I think it's more accurate to say he had a cameo appearance or a minor role. On the other hand, his girlfriend, Anna Akana, starred in it. SilverhandTalk 05:00, 12 February 2014 (UTC)

Capitol Hill Gangsta

The article states that Equals Three was his first set up show, but his Youtube channel had a different show, called Capitol Hill Gangsta, which centered around political humor. He later removed those videos when he switched over to the =3 format permanently. A few of them can be dug up around the internet. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.231.133.182 (talk) 00:03, 3 July 2013 (UTC)

→Capitol Gangsta wasn't really a "show". It was a series of about 3 videos where Ray satirized political pundits, hardly worth a mention on Wikipedia. Also, Ray had almost 2 years worth of videos before he even set up the RayWilliamJohnson Youtube channel. Capitol Gangsta wasn't the first comedy video he made on his old channel nor was it even the most popular. 76.89.180.85 (talk) 23:19, 20 July 2013 (UTC)

→→It was definitely far more than 3 episodes. I wish I could find more concrete info on it, but it's hard to come by now. But I personally started watching it back in 2008 and followed it for many episodes over the course of nearly a year before he started doing =3. There is a reference to the Capitol Hill Gangsta videos here: youtube.come/EPUk_T6PpiQ?t=4m40s If there were different videos he did before that, I don't know about them or know how to find them, nor do I know about his old channel before that one, but the article seems to imply that =3 was what he did from the start when he first started making youtube videos, which is incorrect. 107.214.136.181 (talk) 05:47, 23 December 2013 (UTC)

→→Capitol Hill Gangsta was really a show, it was more than a few episodes, I subscribed to him more than 5 years ago when he did Capitol Hill Gangsta but he had to stop because of his new job or something. As far as I remember he did it for quite some time. Bobjuh (talk) 23:18, 10 March 2014 (UTC)

Capital Hill gangsta

Im just curious as to why there is no info on here about the show Equals three started out as, Capital Hill Gangsta. Ray started on youtube in a very similar to the Daily Show type show. The shows were all deleted (by him I would assume) back when he switched the focus to viral stuff and changed the name to equals three. Even though he did Capitol Hill gangsta for several years. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.84.145.165 (talk) 17:13, 7 May 2015 (UTC)

There's nothing on that because Capital Hill G was only a few videos that he was experimenting with. Youtube is and should be the primary source

@CNMall41: what's wrong with YT being a source?--DixtosaBOT (talk) 06:01, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

You answered your own question with your edit summary - "YouTube is and should be the primary source." Since YouTube is the "primary" source, this is exactly why it should not be used. Refer to this - Wikipedia:PRIMARY. Nothing wrong with using YouTube, but in this case the source you provided is generated from the content you are using to cite it. That would be like me posting a YouTube video stating that I am the president and then using it to cite about myself in a Wikipedia article. Also, even if we used the source you provided or were to find a secondary source to support the content, you are introducing information about another person into a BLP that has nothing to do with them. That is like putting the presidential career of Barack Obama in the article on George Bush Jr. If they are notable, create an article for them and enter the information there. Also, since Mr. Johnson is no longer associated with the show, maybe its time to break the show out into its own article again. --CNMall41 (talk) 07:39, 3 December 2015 (UTC)
That's not at all the same thing, and I think you are misinterpreting the policy on primary sources. A proper equivalent would be "on 12/3/15, CNMall41 claimed to be the president", and using that video as a source. If you were to post a video on X date stating that you were retiring from youtube, then that would be an ideal source for the statement "on X date, CNMall41 announced s/he was retiring from youtube." If the statement made here is explicitly what is in the video, then yes it does make sense to use the video as a source.

Plans for YouTube template useage?

Are there any plans to use the YouTube box template on this article, with the sub. milestones and such, like on Markiplier or Lilly Singh? Wanted to see consensus before I did it myself. NerdwiththehatTalk 17:23, 21 December 2015 (UTC)

Great idea. However, he is no longer a YouTube personality I believe. The most noteworthy show - Equals 3 - is being hosted by someone else. Looks like he is now more into film. --CNMall41 (talk) 18:12, 21 December 2015 (UTC)
The information box was changed to YouTube despite discussion here. Welcoming anyone to chime in with their opinion. This guy is no longer a YouTube personality according to the references he is producing and acting - Who's Driving Doug - so he would be a "former" YouTube personality.

The Runaway Thoughts Section is Complete Speculation

The header says it all. The Runaway Thoughts section of this page is complete speculation, and half of it should be deleted. What is all this "in order to keep his channel going" nonsense? Ray has never stated that he's done anything "in order to keep his channel going." In fact, he's never expressed any interest in keeping anything Youtube related going, as he's trying to focus on his graphic novel and his film career. Also this statement "the original intention of the podcast was supposed to be the continuation of the RayWilliamJohnson Youtube Channel, as Equals Three was ending" is 100% fabricated. Ray's podcast was started long before Ray decided to end Equals Three, almost a year before, in fact.

YouTube infobox instead of regular infobox

I believe we should use the YouTube infobox for Ray William Johnson since he started out and is still best known as a YouTuber. Many YouTubers do other side gigs like films, so I don't see why Ray William Johnson should get a regular infobox when other things he's done like rapping is not even notable. Note tha the regular infobox says he's been rapping since 2007 but there's no mention of his rap career in the Wikipedia entry. Nintendoswitchfan (talk) 09:03, 22 October 2020 (UTC)

Normally I would agree but it has nothing to do with his rap career. In fact, I am not even sure if you can call what he did in rap a "career." Your edit summary on the page says "In the main article headline, it states that he is a YouTuber, so I believe it's fine to use the template since that's what he's primarily known for......." The lede also says "Johnson left the series......but continued to produce." That would make him a producer no? It also has an entire paragraph in the lede that says "towards the end of his tenure......" (which talks about his "primarily known for" YouTube channel which he left) it lists everythign he has done since 2014 when he left the YouTube channel he was known for. This is mainly for production. If anything, the lede should be changed to the following:
"Ray William Johnson is an American producer who originally became notable for his YouTube channel Equals Three."--CNMall41 (talk) 18:55, 22 October 2020 (UTC)

That is a fair point, though he does produce stuff now, he still does make content on his YouTube channel. Nintendoswitchfan (talk) 08:06, 23 October 2020 (UTC)

How about a little re-organization so that it is clear in the history section what he has done. For instance, we can organize an early career for Equals Three, then a post-Equals Three section and then something like "[specific year] to present." We can then add a the YouTube stat box to that specific section. Thoughts?? I would be happy to do the re-organizing and verify references that are already there and then you can do the information box for that section. Let me know. --CNMall41 (talk) 16:10, 26 October 2020 (UTC)
