I'll start this shortly, but I will want to know if he married or had any children.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 06:44, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Last sentence of second paragraph of "early life". Hawkeye7 (talk) 06:55, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I just did a quick look over and missed it earlier. Glad to see that it's there.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 07:15, 11 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Is a tombstone promotion enough to qualify the guy according WP:SOLDIER?
  • Aren't there more secondary sources available on him? I really don't like the near total reliance on his memoirs. If he was truly notable, this wouldn't be a problem.
    • He is. I will add some more stuff. Hawkeye7 (talk) 08:56, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
      • OK, let me know when you've added them and I'll finish this.
  • I really don't think the "but" in this sentence is appropriate since there's no real contrast between the two parts. On 20 June 1946, he reverted to the rank of captain, but on 30 June he assumed command of the battleship USS Iowa.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 07:33, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • The picture is appropriately licensed.
    • It's terrible. I have asked NARA to find me a better picture. Hawkeye7 (talk) 08:56, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
