Razzy Dazzy Jazzy Band[edit]

Regarding the supposed name change to "Razzy Dazzy Jazzy Band": Harry Huguenot's 1919 letter to the New York Dramatic Mirror (in Daniel Hardie's Exploring Early Jazz [1]) does talk about the early days of the Spasm Band, but even Huguenot wasn't sure if that had anything to do with the origin of the word jazz. What's more, he doesn't even mention any name for the band other than "Stale Bread's Spasm Band."

The claim about the name change seems to derive from Herbert Asbury's 1936 book The French Quarter [2], but Asbury doesn't cite any sources. It's certainly a stretch to say that this story has anything to do with jazz first appearing "in print," since there's no print evidence for "Razzy Dazzy Jazzy Band" as far as I'm aware. —Offenbach (talk) 02:44, 20 June 2009 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by DaveCW (talkcontribs) [reply]
