This page is fiction and should be deleted. The lamp post is not known by this name. Someone scratching words on a lamp postis evidence of nothing.

In fact, the lamp post is referred to as the reality checkpoint. But I agree that the article needs sourcing. Bluap 15:50, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

(Sorry, can't be bothered digging my old login details out...) Reality Checkpoint is one of those Cambridge place names, like Four Lamps and Mitcham's Corner, you won't find on any official map but is widely known amongst the local population. Any local taxi driver would be able to take you there (well, close to it as it's in the middle of a park.) It definitely predates my 14 years in the area. I'd be very surprised if it hadn't had some serious work written about it, however it has made it into print at least once: [1]. I learned of 'Reality Checkpoint' in the application literature for new undergraduates I received before coming up to Cambridge around 1976. It had a very nice black and white photo of the graffiti scratched into the black-paint. Can't remember the publication. Madir 10:54, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is Reality Checkpoint really worthy of it's own article? It seems to me that it should be merged with the Parker's Piece - it's not really significant by it's own merit alone. Shockeroo 13:36, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Reality Checkpoint was there in 1973. I once used it, during daylight and while sober, to check which way I was going during thick fog. Article[edit]

I heard this theory: It's the start and finish point for Mescaline Run-outs. A group of you meet at Reality Checkpoint, do some mescaline and all walk off in different directions. When each person reaches the edge of town you turn round, come back to Reality Checkpoint and compare experiences.

It's not just "some students" that know this lamppost as the Reality Checkpoint, but I'd argue the large majority of Cambridge residents. That's speculation of course, but the Reality Checkpoint has given its name to a book by Peter Turnbull (as linked above) and to the latest album by Drum and Base artist Logistics (who comes from Cambridge). I'd like to argue that the article should stay because the lamppost has cultural significance that goes beyond local folklore. Origins of the name[edit]
