Conclusions following research[edit]

Here are the conclusions that I found when researching Rebecca Bryan Boone's life (see citations within the article):

  • Rebecca's father is Joseph Bryan. His father Morgan Bryan is sometimes given as her father, which is likely because Rebecca lived with her grandparents after her mother, Hester, died.
  • Rebecca's mother was Hester (Simpson and/or Hampton) Bryan. (The thought that Alee Linville Bryan was her mother seems to have started with a geneaologist in 1922, who didn't know or didn't consider the information about Rebecca and Martha being raised by their grandparents.)
  • She had a full sister, Martha.
  • Rebecca and Martha went to live with their paternal grandparents when they were very young. They moved with their grandparents and continued to live with them after their father married Alice (Alee, Aylee) Linville in Augusta, Virginia. Rebecca had about nine half-siblings.
  • The "fire hunt" story seems to be a legend and was not likely true.
  • The "Boone's surprise" legend, where Rebecca was said to have believed Daniel was dead and had an affair with his brother Ned (or perhaps another Bryan family member) seems to be a legend. There's no clear information that points to Rebecca giving birth to a child that was conceived during Daniel's absence. The most discussed scenario was that Jemima was not Daniel's daughter, but she was born 11 months after he returned to Rebecca.

When looking at reliable sources (vs. genealogy, blog sources), I have a hard time finding information about:

  • Whether her mother, Hester, is Hester Simpson, Hester Hampton, or Hester (Simpson) Hampton. There is very little information about her mother.
  • Whether Hester and Joseph had a son, born before Rebecca, named Joseph Bryan, Jr.

Questions:

  • Does anyone have reliable information (books, journal articles, etc.), though, that conflicts with the conclusions?
  • Is there information that clarifies Hester's maiden and perhaps former married name? Could she have been Hester Linville, sister to Alice, who was married once before marrying Joseph?
  • Is there information about the life of Joseph Bryan, Jr., born about 1737?

Thanks so much!–CaroleHenson (talk) 01:57, 15 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

There is also some confusion about a Joseph Bryan who is said to have married a woman named Hester about 1772. I could not find any public records to substantiate this and there is no mention in reliable sources about Joseph having lost his wife and remarried later in life (but there's so little about him, that's not surprising).–CaroleHenson (talk) 19:16, 16 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Still searching for info about Hester, but it seems that she was born about 1720 and died about 1740. Need good sources for that, though.–CaroleHenson (talk) 19:18, 16 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
