Untitled[edit]

Moved from article since this probably belongs to the Dennis Rodman article rather than the general rebound article, and the referred to "tipping" technique is not original to Rodman:

Dennis Rodman was considered one of the best rebounders in the NBA. He managed to lead the league in rebounding for seven straight seasons despite generally not being one of the tallest or largest players on the court. He made up for his lack of size by "tipping" the ball when rebounding. When the ball was close enough to him to touch, but too far for him to immediately take firm grasp of it, he would use his fingers to attempt to tip the ball in a very controlled fashion--either to himself, into basket for a goal, or to a particular spot on the court where one of his teammates would have the best chance to recover it.

Notable Rebounders[edit]

lets not just put our favorite big men on our team —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bloodkillas (talkcontribs) 19:46, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

bosh and wilcox as notable rebounders? come on lets be serious about this article —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.15.149.209 (talk) 20:34, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If the player is a center and they haven't averaged at least 10+ rpg then they shouldn't even be considered a notable rebounder. For all other positions the players have to have averaged at least 8+ rpg. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.226.44.138 (talk) 12:54, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bobby Jones wasn't known for his leaping ability ??? He was a high school state high jump champion ! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.253.82.210 (talk) 05:54, 9 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Uhh, Dwight Howard has lead the league in rebounds for the past two seasons, something that most of the "notable rebounders" here haven't done, so he might deserve a bigger place on this list. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.64.243.58 (talk) 14:20, 4 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Boxing out section[edit]

The section on boxing out was merged from a separate page per this AfD discussion. That page now redirects to this one. Xymmax (talk) 15:31, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How about an apolitical picture?[edit]

How about something like this? [[1]] —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.10.240.86 (talk) 07:59, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Barack Obama is the picture?? Is this a joke? I don't remember seeing any pictures of George W Bush throwing a pitch on any of wiki's baseball pages. No wonder the right wing feels justified in forming an alternative to wikipedia... Surely somebody can put up a picture of Rodman, Wilt, Dwight Howard or SOMEBODY who has played in the NBA... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.185.171.127 (talk) 23:56, 17 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If that's a problem then just change it commons:Category:Basketball --  DasRakel    12:39, 30 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There should be a section added to the article discussing rebound rate, since it is probably a more telling statistic of a player's effectiveness on the boards than rebounds per game is.Hoops gza (talk) 15:13, 14 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Rebound after a block shot[edit]

I think in the first section, someone forgot to add that rebound is count after you collect the ball from a block shot. I'll add that. Prince Azulay (talk) 16:48, 30 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

controlling vs. possessing[edit]

What two others are saying here seems to jibe with what I'm seeing on the internet- a player who gives his team possession by deliberately tipping the ball to a teammate is credited with the rebound. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.184.79.11 (talk) 16:46, 3 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
