Not just GCC[edit]

It's true that GCC uses a RTL, but many compilers use register transfer languages internally. I think that this article should be about RTLs in general, not just GCC's (though that may make an interesting section, since GCC is an important compiler). Brighterorange 17:41, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I also agree. The article makes it seem like GCC is the only place where it is used, and that the form presented is the only form used. RTL is used a lot in teaching CPU design so I think this article should offer a more detailed explanation

HDLs[edit]

I thought in the context of HDLs, RTL meant "register transfer level", describing the level of the design description (as opposed to gate/transistor level). I've never heard it expanded as "register transfer language" in this context. --CTho 01:43, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
