Status of Memel[edit]

Memel was never part of the conquered territories. It became half a year before the beginning of World War II part of Germany again.

Probably true, strictly-speaking , but regaining Memel would still have been a product of Nazi expansionism and bullying of its neighbours. Folks at 137 14:40, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Memel wasn't gained back through bullying or threat of violence, but by a plebiscite. --41.146.31.66 (talk) 02:38, 17 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Language[edit]

People who can't even speak english properly should not be allowed to contribute to the english-speaking wikipedia. none of this article makes any sense, the grammar is impossible and there are errors everywhere. --82.47.165.106 15:56, 26 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Don't agree. The contributor clearly has specific information which adds to Wiki. I do agree that the language was "difficult" and I've attempted to sub-ed spelling, phrasing, etc without altering the original meaning. I hope it's ok. I may, given time, attempt to group the info under general headings. Comments?
I suspect that the German administrations may have re-used German placenames such as "Reval" for "Tallinn". Is this correct and are there other examples?

In German were used German names and in Estonian Estonian ones.

Hierarchy of headings[edit]

The order of "See also" headings and links is a little unorthodox for Wikipedia. Would it be better to make all of them subordinate (as is usual) to a single "See also" heading with subheads for German and Baltic political leaders, or does that confuse their roles in and responsibility for the occupation? —— Shakescene (talk) 10:39, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Realm's Commissionerate of Eastland?[edit]

Isn't the translation of Reichskommissariat Ostland into English as Realm's Commissionerate of Eastland?

ArmchairVexillologistDonLives! (talk) 00:23, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That may be true, but while few people know about Reichskommissariat Ostland, no one at all would know about the Realm's Commissionerate of Eastland. One good recent book (I think Hitler's Empire or The Third Reich at War) methodically anglicised all German terms, but it used something standard like "Eastern Territories" for the place. Reich has now become part of the English language, so the difficulty is in translating "Kommissariat". "Administration" is one weak possibility so I think I've seen something like "Reich Administration of the Eastern Territories". —— Shakescene (talk) 17:35, 13 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Map Changes[edit]

I've created a simplified version of the map for the infobox that is legible without zooming. As a result I have moved the main fullsize admin map to a subsection of the Administration section. XrysD (talk) 19:21, 14 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
