According to the article, the founder died in 1981 yet there is a reference to a transaction being completed in 1988. Is there another person of the same name (son??) involved in this company?? --24.76.174.63 (talk) 17:55, 10 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

There's more on the company's history here:
https://replogleglobes.com/history-of-replogles/
It says in part, "Luther Replogle sold his growing company to Meredith Publishing (owner of Better Homes and Garden magazine) in 1959.  He continued to head up Replogle until his retirement from the company in 1969..."
In 2010 the company was bought by Herff Jones, makers of class rings. They fired everyone but a few salespeople and moved operations to another state. Quality plummeted. Herff Jones was going to discontinue making Replogle globes but in 2014 they agreed to sell the company to four former employees. Those four moved operations back near the original location and rehired many old employees. Today (2023) that ownership continues. Quality has bounced back. I recently bought my son a Quince (9", antique color scheme), and the quality is excellent. It's even better than the Quince I bought for myself 1994.
Read some of the Amazon reviews from the sad Herff Jones period of 2010-2014. They were making some pretty atrocious globes! It sounds like at least some of their employees may have had neither the training nor the inclination to do it right. I have a 16" "Commander II" Replogle globe from that time period; I bought it in January 2014. The first two--yes TWO--were so bad they had to be returned. The third one was better, though it doesn't spin very freely. Still, knowing their history, I might spring for a replacement globe someday in part to get the Herff Jones badge out of my house. And maybe it will spin better! Greg Lovern (talk) 00:21, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
