Merge discussion[edit]

It looks like this merge discussion (which was not proposed by me) never got started, so...? I wouldn't agree with merging this to Off the derech, because leaving the community and remaining in the community while not believing in everything are not the same thing. The title of this article appears to be a rarely used coinage, so I would support renaming to "Atheism in the Haredi Jewish community". (We have Jewish atheism but that's not really the same thing either.) –Roscelese (talkcontribs) 18:38, 8 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Suppport merge. The 2nd introductory paragraph, citing Margolese (2005), says that the term includes those who still keep halacha, but do not share the beliefs of their previous form of Orthodoxy. So, given that we have source suggesting that people fulfilling the description of Reverse Marranos (Haredim who appear to live a Haredi lifestyle but do not believe in the core beliefs associated with that lifestyle) is a subset of the larger group, a merge seems reasonable. Distinct section perhaps? Klbrain (talk) 17:09, 15 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Klbrain: I'm not sure I agree - OTD is about leaving the community. Leaving the community and being Modern Orthodox instead would still be OTD under the definition you cite. But the "reverse Marranos" thing here is about still being in the community, and just not believing. –Roscelese (talkcontribs) 14:39, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Closing, given the uncontested objection for the merge. Klbrain (talk) 06:53, 27 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
