Christopher Fitzgerald

In Christopher Fitzgerald (actor)'s bio for Young Frankenstein (musical) he lists this movie as one of his credits, but does not list a role. Does anyone know anything about this? --kralahome 05:51, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

Richard Larabee and Curt Smith

OK, I chopped two of the "Critical Reception" blurbs because they were uncited, and also seemed to be a thin veil for someone's personal dislike of the movie (and apparently, Peter Travers). I forgot to sign in first (hence the IP edit), but I feel my actions were legitimate. Comments that biased are absolutely, positively okay in the context of critics' reviews, so long as it can be verified that these critics actually said these things, and that they are noteworthy in their field. Now, seeing that Richard Larabee is, first and foremost, a Rear Admiral in the Navy (thus sayeth the Google) and that Curt Smith is one of any number of generic people (Google again), I doubt that either of them are terribly well-known in the field of art critique. If I'm *provably* wrong, and they have some verifiable input on this film, then by all means, replace what I've removed. Until then, though... Ncalvin (talk) 07:16, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Plot synopsis

What happened to the plot synopsis? I remember a couple weeks ago it was perfectly concise, but now it appears it's been expanded out to suffer the same problems of so many other plot synopses — excessive detail. In its previous incarnation, it gave a perfect overview of the most important details of the plot, but now it's been bogged down in the nitty-gritty details of specific events in the screenplay. Can we get a re-edit to bring back some of the simplified, thematic spirit of the old version? –Fierce Beaver (talk) 23:44, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

I am working through it, and will try to keep it concise. 500-700 words is okay, and I think it's within that at this point. My main objection is that it summarizes from one point of view some very complex emotions, for example that Fran "despises" himself for following his father, or that the neighbors find the couple's dreams of Paris "immature". It is never clear exactly what they think of the couple - they support the Wheelers to their faces, then tell each other they think it's "immature" (in one case) or impractical, etc. But part of the theme of the film is how people are lying to each other and to themselves about how they really feel, even though they often do know - they just can't say it. Given that the emotions are so multilayered, I think it's better to just report what they say or how they act. Plot summaries are all original research anyway, so it's best to stick to the facts in telling the plot, and then bring out the deeper themes in a separate section that hopefully includes some sourced opinions of reviewers. Nationality

Currently in the lead of this article of the film it says its an American film, but in the infobox it says its a British film. I've noticed that this has kind of went back and forth for a while now. Would it be better not to put anything for the film's national origin?Jordancelticsfan (talk) 22:54, 17 May 2011 (UTC)

I think the trend has been to remove the nationalities altogether as they create more problems than they solve, but please don't consider this an authoritative response. Doniago (talk) 13:30, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

Critical reaction

Not attackibng the film as I like it, but if a film has 68% at Rotten Tomatoes, I would think the rreviews excerpted should include negative responses, particularly given the fact the section has several more than is the norm.
