Confederate song?[edit]
My understanding is that the song was sung satirically by Union troops to mock the failures of their leaders. The lyrics certainly seem to be written from the perspective of Union soldiers. I can understand how people think it is a Confederate song, but given that the author is unknown it is just as likely that it was written satirically by Union men.
"Famous Proclamation"[edit]
I think the "Famous Proclamation" by Pope is not referring to the Emancipation Proclamation (which is what it currently links to), which was only publicized after Antietam. It seems pretty obvious it's referring to Pope's infamous declaration to his troops that there would be no planning for lines of retreat etc. High Leader (talk) 08:02, 28 January 2018 (UTC)
