Birthdate[edit]

I reverted a removal of a the citation needed tag on the subject's birthdate, since the citation given in the edit summary was to a message board. Is this information documented anywhere in a reliable source? VQuakr (talk) 04:38, 23 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The citation given was to the official Cheap Trick messageboard at CheapTrick.com, the post was verified by the administrator of the cheap trick messageboard who works for Cheap Trick's management, at the request of Rick Nielsen himself. Please review WP:SELFPUBLISH for a message board is not an appropriate source for disputed information. Per our policy on biographies of living persons, I'm removing the birthdate info for the time being. You may wish to review WP:NLT and WP:COI as well. It was a good idea to remove the disputed, uncited birthdate, and I have removed an additional one in the infobox. Thanks to the people close to Rick Nielsen who have brought this to WP's attention and tried to correct this issue. The problem is that at the moment there does not appear to be what we call a reliable source for either date, so it is best if we remove it altogether. If Mr. Nielsen would like the correct date inserted, then it is probably best if a biography of him is written with the date included and hosted on an official site such as cheaptricks.com. Unfortunately, for our purposes a post on a discussion forum is not sufficient per our rules about biographies of living people, because it is not clear what authority posters have. --Slp1 (talk) 14:58, 23 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It is a bit of a mystery actually. This Chicago Tribune article, published on April 27, 1997 says he was 50, which fits in with the earlier 1946 date, not the later one. So does this Who's Who [1] --Slp1 (talk) 15:22, 23 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, this seems very strange. Maybe our friends at Cheaptrick can post here and shed some light on the subject. I suggest giving waiting a week or so for further developments, then adding back in the original birthdate (this time with a couple of good sources). Thoughts? The Stockholm Inn[edit]

Nielsen is the principle owner of The Stockholm Inn in Rockford Il, and these is an interesting story about how he and some other investors saved the local landmark from bankruptcy. Before I go to the trouble of writing it and gathering the citations, I would like to seek the consensus on whether it is appropriate to add to the article Cosand (talk) 03:09, 5 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

True; he's been married for around 40 years and at least two of his children are musicians as well, including his son Dax, who has been playing drums for Cheap Trick since Bun E. Carlos' falling out with the band (mostly Robin Zander) in 2010.
