Proposed merge with Underground Astronauts[edit]

Per WP:BLP1E: " Being in the news does not in itself mean that someone should be the subject of a Wikipedia article." While these women certainly were part of an exciting (and well publicized) discovery, I don't think any yet meet independent notability guidelines. No disrespect intended, but many are just starting their careers. Unless significant, third party, non-Homo naledi related coverage exists, I think it most prudent to redirect all to Rising Star Cave. --Animalparty! (talk) 08:09, 7 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

::Is there independent notability of the team? It's about people directly involved with the Rising Star Expedition, and only known to the world at large because of it. They are all living persons, so BLP1E and WP:SINGLEEVENT still apply, and while a single team article makes more sense than having 6 individual articles (which would largely be about the same event), I still think it best to centralize information, unless or until the point they become separately notable beyond the September-October 2015 news wave. --Animalparty! 2017 Update needed[edit]

In the light of the recent (May 2017) papers published both on the Dinaledi specimens, (dating them to between 335,000 and 236,000 YBP) and those discovered in the nearby Lesedi chamber (also part of the Rising Star complex), plus the species as a whole, this article needs significant revision/enlarging. The relevant papers are cited in the Homo naledi article, which has started to incorporate some of the newer findings. Doing so exceeds my own current Wiki-skills.

[Edited to add: Berger et al returned to Rising Star in September 2017 to conduct further excavations in both Dinaledi and Lesedi. Once details are made public, updating this article will become even more necessary. Orientation of passages[edit]

In subsection Discovery of fossils in Dinaledi Chamber is a statement that recreational cavers found a narrow, vertically oriented "chimney" or "chute." By the description, this is the Superman Crawl, which, like the Dragon's Back, is nearly horizontal. That's a fair idea, to explain the origin as bread crumbs, and over time they become more elaborate, the original purpose lost to time. For Wikipedia purposes it's WP:OR but maybe there is a source for this somewhere it doesn't need to be about this particular cave. -- GreenC 16:25, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
