Hello! Can we ask someone who has a little bit more knowledge on how the term originated, how the definition has changed over the years? Thank you for starting the article, let us improve it properly. abhilash_kp (talk) 11:36, 18 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Scripts[edit]

We generally avoid scripts in the leads of India/South Asia related pages because they are simply clutter. A balance of Hindi-Urdu/Hindustani where both are treated simultaneously is precedent here on WP/Wikt unless otherwise noted. This is what I followed and removed lect precedence and scripts. I was simply following in that spirit and take specific offence to being labelled under anti-Urdu and Pakistan(?) WP:PERSONALATTACKs simply for enforcing WP precedent and WP:STABLE. And the supposed identities of editors (religious/national), which is a clear no-go, should never be a basis for any personal attacks.

I will be doing away with the scripts again (which should not be a way for showing supposed origins/borrowings anyway), the cats (which are for articles about words themselves, this being about the practice) and outdated portals. To be noted that we are not scripting "sadhana" etc. used in Carnatic/Hindustani here as well. Will also add an inline wikt. Gotitbro (talk) 13:31, 26 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Also, clarifying for anyone who has not read and familiarized the multiple discussions at WP:INDICSRIPTS. The policy is not to target "Indic scripts" exclusively but any script used in India, and only in India-specific articles. The case being that generic articles not specific to India (non-geo, bio etc.; where scripts for any Indian language will be acceptable) lead to clutter and the precedential practice is to remove scripts all together. This is the spirit of that policy, it does not impinge on non-generic articles wholly specific to other countries. Gotitbro (talk) 13:44, 26 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
