Headings[edit]

I have restored the first of the three headings which was deleted. Headings now read Biography - Notes - References, as in hundreds of cognate articles. - Tim riley (talk) 13:40, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Good. I broke the long Biography section in two. -- Ssilvers (talk) 23:07, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hawthorne's description and photographs[edit]

I find Hawthorne's description of “Pen” Browning as a boy curious and absurdly romantic presumably predicated upon who his parents were. Had this been the village blacksmith’s kid, Hawthorne probably wouldn’t have given him a second thought. So he was a pretty boy and skinny like a lot of kids. (Judging by the full photo on his mother’s page, no more so than many boys.) Hawthorne almost seems to have painted an androgynous portrait of him. (I assume the long hair was fashionable for boys then in his environment.) Yet the boy grew up to revel in sports, including boxing, and had probably always been more boyish than “sissyish” or “nerdish” judging by his apparent lack of an affinity for scholastics, notwithstanding an artistic bent.

I’ve been unable to find any other photos or portraits of him either as a child or an adult. Does anyone know of any? I can’t find any online. If so, perhaps one or two of them could be added to the article.HistoryBuff14 (talk) 20:26, 23 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
