Untitled[edit]

Dr. Bob Collis had many strings to his bow, including tending to the injured in O'Connell Street during the 1921 Irish Civil War, while he was still studying medicine in Trinity College.

He was Irish Author Christy Brown's Doctor from an early age, to whom Christy dedicated the book 'My Left Foot’ to, and in his spare time took time out to play rugby for the Ireland.

He was Head paediatrician for the Rotunda Maternity Hospital and the National Children's Hospital, Dublin, and was the first Medic into Belsen concentration camp, Germany, with the Red Cross.

He was founder of the children’s charity 'Enable Ireland' which now cares for 3,500 children and adults.

Dr. Bob died in a tragic horse riding accident in 1975. He was a great man, may he rest in peace.

Mark Fitzgerald Collis.
