GA on hold[edit]

This article is well-referenced. I've fixed a few formatting issues (there shouldn't be a space between the period and the ref, just a little thing). The first thing I'm thinking, though, is that the article doesn't cover the breadth requirement for GA yet. Such a controversial author surely has more out there about him than six references can cover. Also, some parts of the article need copy-editing. Maybe get someone not familiar with the subject to look it over and make it a little less choppy and repetitive. The lead is also a bit short. I think it ought to mention some of his awards and a little more about his life. I also expect it will get bigger as the main body of the article does. I'm putting th GA on hold for at least 7 days, so if it's fixed by then, I'll pass it. Wrad (talk) 01:35, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I would think so too, bu tI could not find any Reliable Sources about the subject other than those. I'm also not a great Google Searcher, I'll see if I can get some other people to help me. Soxred93 | talk count bot 22:02, 29 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Try whatever library -- academic or public -- that you have a card for; you can likely search indexes like EBSCO or Gale on line. Toronto Public gives me the Canadian Periodical Index, which is basically Gale. Searching on "Cormier, Robert" as a subject gets me 54 full-text articles. Some are irrelevant hits, and others are reviews, but there's also, e.g., "Teen Wars : The young adult fiction of Robert Cormier" in World and I (Dec 2001) clocking in at 3174 words.
Your article is a good start on Cormier. There's some rewording that I think would improve what's there now. If I have a chance, I'll make some changes. Epanalepsis (talk) 03:56, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm failing this as GA. I just can't see how it could possibly satisfy the breadth requirement with no print sources. Wrad (talk) 18:12, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Assessment four years later[edit]

After making some improvements (previous version) I downgrade it from B to C, Children's lit (and I suppose the B grades predate class C). Some problems:

  • After reading this article (and I am the cheese) I must guess some replacement for {infobox} genre "Suspense, Young Adult", which is outlandish but had not been displayed because of syntax error --(about genre see the new Talk section)
  • The image lacks a caption
  • (Quoting the lead) "His most popular works ... all of which have won awards." --but the awards are nowhere identified
  • (Quoting the Life) "... went on to become an award-winning journalist" but no award is identified. --and he is a columnist in the lead but there is no mention of his column (human interest? business? etc)
  • The major Margaret A. Edwards Award is explained generally without any specific citation of Cormier, not even the recognized body of work  Done
  • Refs to the given online sources are incomplete (as were the three Ext links that I have completed)

--P64 (talk) 02:00, 15 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Before leaving I covered the 1997 Phoenix Award adequately, and the 1991 Edwards Award with official citation and references --which is adequate content but slapped into two locations.
  • P.S. This "biography" says almost nothing about his life while he was a writer (spouse and children merely named in {{infobox writer}} fields), nor whether he ever retired, and nothing about his death (merely infobox fields).

Genre(s)[edit]

I don't know Cormier and arrived only after covering the Phoenix Award at I am the cheese. Among other changes, I replaced {{infobox writer}} genre="Suspense, Young Adult" --which is appropriate for no one, but was invisible due to a syntax error-- thus:

Genre(s): Realist young adult (YA) novels, crime fiction, thriller

Because those are guesses I didn't add any genre portal to See also or genre category to the footer --such as Portal: Crime or Category:Crime fiction writers, or anything similar for mystery fiction, etc.
