Requested move[edit]

Robert Murray M'CheyneRobert Murray McCheyne — In McCheyne's time it was commonplace to use an inverted apostrophe to spell the prefix "Mc". There is no inverted apostrophe in the ASCII set, and people are spelling his name with an ordinary apostrophe to represent the archaic form; however, this is bound to lead to confusion, since people will assume his name is pronounced "Mmmcheyne". —Marnanel 11:56, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • SupportBrian0324 14:59, 21 August 2007 (UTC) Much less confusing to pronounce - and not much bigger[reply]
  • Oppose Spell it as it is spelt. Note that M' is an old-fashioned form of Mc/Mac if you think you have to. Septentrionalis PMAnderson 16:58, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. External links use M'Cheyne -- add an explanation/pronunciation in the intro line if necessary. (If this passes, should we move Ming?) — AjaxSmack 20:03, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
