Revert death[edit]

I don't understand why someone said there's potentially libelous content on this page when Rod Beck is dead. It's impossible to libel the dead. 68.45.106.216 18:35, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There are no reliable sources that say that he's dead...until there are, information about someone's death could be libelous. --CFIF 18:42, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ESPN News has had it on their ticker for the last 14 minutes. (7 minutes before I posted). You're saying ESPN isn't reliable? Come on. 68.45.106.216 18:42, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay...but I'm not sure you folks understand why I had to revert so many postings of his death here. See Wikipedia:Reliable sources. Message board speculation is NOT a reliable source. --CFIF 18:45, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ESPN News is a reliable source, NOT message board speculation. It's now 20 minutes after they've confirmed it and the page is still semi-protected and there's the "recently deceased person" tag hasn't been restored. 68.45.106.216 18:50, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

BEFORE ESPNNEWS reported it, I had to revert the info because the only word of his death was MESSAGE BOARD SPECULATION. We just don't add message board speculation here until someone can confirm it. --CFIF 18:53, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also, because the page is still semi-protected, I cannot edit the page to correct that he died on the 23rd, not the 24th. 68.45.106.216 18:51, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What kind of crack are you smoking? Even in the worst case scenario that he wasn't actually dead, saying that he is dead is not libel. 24.27.15.134 19:51, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good point. Libel requires a defamatory intent and clearly no one wanted to defame the poor man.

azcentral.com reports that he died last night, the 23rd, not the 24th as is listed, but for whatever reason this page is still semi-protected 90 minutes after the death was confirmed so I'm not able to correct it. 68.45.106.216 19:56, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There is a POLICY at Wikipedia (Wikipedia:Verifiability) that says you have to source information. (especially of this kind). You can't just add whatever you'd like to articles. I'm not sure what you IP's don't understand about that. --CFIF 20:02, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what YOU don't understand about ESPN News having already confirmed the death before any of this discussion took place. They confirmed at 18:28. This discussion began at 18:35. Just because ESPN News hadn't put it on the INTRAWEBS, that doesn't reduce the veracity of their confirmation. 68.45.106.216 01:59, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

death[edit]

reported on ESPN news... mentioned and discussed during the telecast of the sox/cubs game... that's pretty bold of them if you're trying to tell me he's not dead. 71.194.130.87 18:44, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I got a text alert from ESPN on my mobile, but espn.com has nothing at present. Same no news from CNN or MSNBC. DarkAudit 18:57, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

His death is being reported by reliable sources see here. [1] He died on Saturday. [2] Capitalistroadster 20:20, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I took out the part about his death perhaps being due to drugs - he drank, he wasnt a drug user, and there is no evidence about drugs yet anyways - patience is a virtue

Start classification[edit]

I have classified this article as a start. It would be good if we had a picture and some of the sections ie Boston Red Sox need work. Capitalistroadster 20:19, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

CFIF[edit]

Protecting the internets, one revert at a time. 71.194.130.87 20:58, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Are personal attacks really necessary? I don't see why you need to "revert" to name calling over a silly thing like this. --CFIF 21:11, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It could be because you were being unreasonably defensive about what turned out to be an improper revert. It really annoys me how uptight some wikipedians are about supposed POLICY. I don't no why people just don't mark things with "citation needed" or something and move on. --Fandyllic 4:49 PM PDT 28 Jun 2007

Fancruft[edit]

Look, I know the guy just died, but can we lay off with this eulogy? Do we need to know what his favorite beer was or how hard nosed his agent though he was? Please check Wikipedia:Fancruft and edit accordingly. Let the facts speak for themselves. --Theloniouszen 02:21, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Some Protection[edit]

Vandalism is getting pretty bad. Can we somewhat protect this page? User: Saget53

Info box colors[edit]

I agree that Giants colors are most representative of his career; however, the man was buried in his Cubs uniform. If that is not the epitome of his legacy, I don't know what is. 192.234.99.1 18:32, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Back to the Minors[edit]

I added the section, and looking to expand it due it helping to expand his legacy. --Powerfire (talk) 19:55, 14 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Revisions[edit]

I've cleaned up the article some and tried to format the citations and remove ones that weren't needed. I've contacted a website with a picture of Beck that I think would be great for the article and am hoping they will agree to license it so it can be used. --WGFinley (talk) 18:22, 30 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
