Looking back at this[edit]

Overwhelmed by the unexpected tedium of detail, I had this article languishing on a user page for quite some time. One day I decided precipitously to move it into a space where others could use it. I freely confess that some parts of the narrative are insufficiently footnoted, but they aren't "original": these parts are from the standard sources noted in the bibliography, but I hadn't finished the annotations. My original goal had been to provide a list, like other lists of Roman governors, but it turns out the story of the Gallic provinces is just more complex than the others.
