Disambiguation

Will anyone mind if a disambiguation note is placed for the other two, Cristiano Ronaldo and Ronaldinho? This single name titles are really polluting the namespace... --Shallot 18:34, 21 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Problematic sentence

I found this sentence confusing: Later in 1999, he was joined by one of Italy's greatest World Cup goal-scorers and former Juventus striker, Christian Vieri, whom broke "Il Phenomenon's" world record transfer.

First, who is "Il Phenomenon"? Is it Ronaldo himself? The article doesn't make this clear.

Second, as someone who is not a football fan, I don't know what is meant by "world record transfer". Transfer of what?

"He is thought by many to be the best striker to play football since Pelé" The sentence is wrong because Pele was not a striker.

I think that by world record transfer, they mean that it was the most expensive transfer ever made (at the time.) I haven't checked this though, so correct me if i'm wrong, but it is the most obvious thing that i can think of.ALV

Bisexual

To the user who inserted the "there's a rumour he's bisexual" line, um, good on you for coming up with unique info for the entry, I guess. But I don't think an encyclopœdia is the right place to say "there is a rumour that ..." if we can possibly avoid it. Does anyone have a credible cite? --MarkGallagher 01:29, 30 July 2005 (UTC)

Ronaldinho

Just a curiosity: Ronaldo is, in fact, known as Ronaldinho back in Brazil. And Ronaldinho is known as Ronaldinho Gaúcho. --Pinnecco 10:15, 20 November 2005 (UTC)

Ronaldinho at World Cup 94

What's the source of this statement in the article: "During World Cup '94, he was given the name "Ronaldinho", to distinguish him from Ronaldão in the squad."? As far as I know he was known as "Ronaldo" during 1994 FIFA World Cup, and the Brazil World Cup 94 squad doesn't have another player with a similar name. --Pkchan 05:59, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

There was really a defender called Ronaldo as well, but he didn't played any match. Brazilian press (mostly TV Globo I would say), gave them the nick names Ronaldinho and Ronaldão (Big Ronaldo and Little Ronaldo, or Ronaldo the Great, Ronaldo the Small). I don't believe the nickname Ronaldinho ever caught outside Brazil. --Abu Badali 15:21, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

I seem to remember he was known as Ronaldo in WC '94 but he definitely listed as Ronaldinho in the Umbro Cup in England in 1995.--Ukdan999 00:54, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

The official squad lists in 1994 listed the two as Ronaldão (the defender) and Ronaldo (our buck-toothed friend). It is at least partly a myth that Brazilians call Ronaldo 'Ronaldinho', his shirt name is always RONALDO for and in Brazil, and Ronaldinho Gaúcho's is always RONALDINHO. They don't change their names willy-and-indeed-nilly, see the two Gilberto's in the 2006 squad. Mjefm 18:42, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

Unsourced bold statement

"He is said to be the second most known person in the world after George W. Bush."

All those (unsourced) bold and/or POV statements should just be removed I think. If the person who wrote it had it from a source, it would have been easy to just slap on a url, but as there's no url present, it's most probably not true. Poulsen 12:32, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

Disambiguation

Seeing as there are 3 footballers called "Ronaldo": Cristiano Ronaldo, Ronaldo Rodrigues de Jesus and Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima, there should be a disambiguation page. Cokehabit 17:32, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima is by far the most well-known Ronaldo. The English-language press has long developed the scheme to disambiguate them:

There's a problem here.

There needs to be a page called simply "Ronaldo" that is an article about the "Luis Nazario de Lima" one (the "Ronaldo", the one that even americans know of, no offense, but come on that says something) , and on there, there should be that notice at the top that says "see Ronaldo Disambiguation", that leads to the current "Ronaldo" Page. Just practicality, is all.
