Clean up comments:[edit]

I quickly realized this page was a major copyright violation taken from his state-senate page (content on state websites, unlike federal websites, are not automatically public domain). Needless to say, because it was taken from his own website it also read somewhat like a re-election campaign advert. I've removed some of POV but kept it mostly in tact. I've also included a pretty amusing (but harmless) quote he gave about wikipedia in The Bakersfield Californian (he must not be too tech savy...). I will add a source reference shortly once I grab the template. Bobak 02:17, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

request for help with crazy URL[edit]

I can't get this URL to work with the cite web template: http://governor.ca.gov/state/govsite/gov_htmldisplay.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0838993958.1267828241@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccccadejfihjkfmcfngcfkmdffidfnf.0&sCatTitle=Previous+Administration/Press+Release&sFilePath=/govsite/press_release/2001_10/20011012_L01133_CVlegislation.html&sTitle=GOVERNOR+DAVIS+SIGNS+VALLEY+FEVER+VACCINE+LEGISLATION+10/12/2001&iOID=25211 -- it's the press release unlisted in the article refs. Any assistance welcomed. --Joe Decker (talk) 22:33, 5 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

How about this? Use only ref tags...should be fine.[1] Dmarquard (talk) 19:10, 8 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, while that wasn't exactly precisely what I needed, it was more than close enough to get me over the hump to what I did need. Most appreciated! Thank you! --Joe Decker (talk) 19:50, 8 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Radio Show Section Needs Some Clean Up Or Clarity[edit]

In the cited KERN radio interview with Inga Barks, Ashburn says he resigned from his weekly Saturday radio show the Saturday before these incidents took place, but he did not tell the radio station manangement. Ashburn said, quote, "Without even announcing to the radio station management that I was quiting the show, I simply announced on a Saturday afternoon that this would be my last show." However, KERN did not take down all their websites related to him and his show until directly after Ashburn's incidents on March 3, 2010.

In the cited radio interview (audio on YouTube), Ashburn does not primarily cite that he resigned to avoid a "conflict of interest" as stated in this Wikipeda article. The term and legal principle of "conflict of interest" are likely misleading and incorrect in this case. The term does not describe accurately what Ashburn intended, and the term potentially and unnecessarily portrays Ashburn and KERN in an incorrect light. Ashburn said he quit his show so that KERN would not have to meet federal "equal time requirements" for candidates running for the federal office he was contemplating running for prior to his DUI and related incidents.

I have not heard Ashburn's Feb. 27, 2010 radio show to know if Ashburn announced it would be his last show. This article has no audio citation of that radio broadcast. Onemoreoption (talk) 21:49, 8 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That "conflict of interest" assertion was my fault. I misremembered what he said in the cited clip. I did hear him say at least once on the 27th that it was his last show. KERN records shows for later rebroadcast when someone is sick or on vacation. I'll ask if they did it with his last show. Frotz (talk) 04:54, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Why not edit it then, to reflect the mistake you made? Moncrief (talk) 05:48, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Someone got to it before I realized my mistake. Frotz (talk) 06:25, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Cue the second clip to 7:15. From there to about 8:35 you'll hear Roy and Inga talking about Roy's now-abandoned plans of running for Congress. Frotz (talk) 06:57, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know these people, so why would I refer to them as "Roy" and "Inga," which are their first names. Why would you? Actually, I don't care, but please be sure to follow Wikipedia guidelines and use last names as referents after a name's first appearance, not first names. This is an encyclopedia, not a fansite. There's nothing to get upset about. Frotz (talk) 21:12, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Template[edit]

I have added a template I think might be useful given the circumstances. It is not vandalism. Any questions or complaints I would be happy to respond at my User page. Thanks--Camilo Sanchez (talk) 20:35, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Now removed by Snowolf. I've left a note on your talk page. PeterSymonds (talk) 22:03, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Google Search Information[edit]

When Roy Ashburn is searched for on Google this is what shows up: Roy Ashburn - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_Ashburn - Cached - Similar —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sherthebrave (talkcontribs) 23:29, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That's unfortunate caching by Google. Somebody reported it, so it should be gone soon. In the meantime, I've blanked the Google paste per WP:BLP. Best, PeterSymonds (talk) 23:40, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's gone, thank goodness. It had been there for less than a minute but that was more than enough for the googlebot to catch it. I can haz Flagged Revisions nao, plz? :/ - Alison 01:57, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Anti-gay rights != Anti-gay[edit]

In regards to "Although maintaining a firmly anti-gay voting record as a Senator, he acknowledged being gay in March 2010.[1]"

A more impartial sentence may read "Although maintaining a firmly anti-gay rights voting record as a Senator, he acknowledged being gay in March 2010.[1]" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.56.53.89 (talk) 12:14, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. I'm going to be bold, and make the change. Almostfm (talk) 04:09, 3 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sections[edit]

Three sections of this article -- DUI arrest, Radio show, and Personal -- contain overlapping information that should probably be consolidated into one or at most two sections. The story of his coming out is covered twice, for example. Do other people agree? Moncrief (talk) 16:23, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. I don't think there needs to be a perfect isolation between the sections (if one section covered the orientation stuff and the other the DUI, we'd want to indicate the linkage, etc.) but I'd be for any reorganization of the information into more digestable, logical sections. --Joe Decker (talk) 16:26, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
