Re-organize Article[edit]

Commercial work list pretty unbalanced. I edited the list instead of having one long which looks somewhat sloppy. And I think there should be more information about her early life and rise to prominence, as well as more details about her career. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Junegarfild (talkcontribs) 18:20, August 22, 2007 (UTC).

Huang Zhu Gege[edit]

She was in also in Huang Zhu Gege (I)...so why does it only list the second one under "Television series"?

what do you mean? that article included both 1,2. Joanlee 01:23, 26 Oct 2006 (UTC)

Watch the POV[edit]

Just a friendly reminder...the POV in this article is quite biased, in my opinion. Just look at the beginning, with sentences like:

  • "Taiwan' s number one female star" (what statistic determines this?)
  • From her outstanding performance in the top-rated Chinese TV series Princess Huanzhu (还珠格格) (Huan Zhu Ge Ge did get very good ratings which have been recorded, but her performance in the series is an opinion, not a fact)
  • "Her shimmering magnificence" (again, opinion, and that sounds more like a fansite than an informative article)

Please keep a neutral POV. - Lulu288 19:23, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • famous 5
  • major 2
  • well-known 1
  • beautiful 1
  • classic 1

More Photos[edit]

I think this article needs more photos...first of all, a photo in the infobox would be helpful, and also some pics of her on magazines, etc. Junegarfild 17:30, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Male co-stars section[edit]

Is this section really necessary? It seems like this was included solely in order to speculate about her romantic life.PeRiDoTs13 14:28, 2 September 2007 (UTC)PeRiDoTs13[reply]

Alec Su is Ruby's greatest love of all time. I do think that they belong together. Their relationship is currently under careful speculation of scrutinizer's in the media. They have made at least four movies together, are in the same office of department, and are often seen out to dinner wearing sunglasses. Also, don't you think it's curious that they just HAPPEN to disappear and reappear at the same time during a lunch break while shooting? Think!

I've lived with my mom for over 15 years, does that make me my mom's greatest love of all time? No, that honour goes to my dad. I've done a commercial before as an extra, and it's perfectly normal for guys and girls to talk to each other about everyday things. I think it's you who has to do some thinking. Pandacomics 01:41, 23 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sources[edit]

A large - no, humongous - number of "sources" used in this article are either 1) not verifiable because they come from FORUMS, or 2) are replacable by getting out of your way to find a Chinese-language original. Pandacomics 20:05, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Remove Section[edit]

Male co-stars section removed. I am wondering what all of your opinions were on whether or not we should remove that section all together. I don't think it's really necessary. I jumped into removed that section without consultation. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Shshmijung (talkcontribs) 17:08, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image[edit]

- Thanks for uploading Image:14421.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged. - - As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. Fair use rationale for Image:14162aks2.gif[edit]

Image:14162aks2.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

GA Review[edit]

This review is transcluded from [[{{subst:Ruby Lin}}]]. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the review.

Short review

  • "Endorsements" part should be re-organize by year, or sort of product.
  • "Stardom, 2003-present" is not a very neutral heading title
  • "Personal quotes" part should have more information with citations
Personally, I don't think "Personal quotes" should even be there unless you can fuse it within the prose (as is the case with the other block quotes). POV still remains a problem with the two major acting sections. Pandacomics (talk) 10:22, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I agree w/ Pandacomics about personal quote part. Deleted some words (top, popular, best, influential ..etc) or phrases to watch for POV. Still need more edit. And I don't think both "Endorsements" and "stardom" title has problem. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Getdownbe (talk 10:38, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
"Stardom" is already a POV title. Pandacomics (talk) 18:24, 13 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

GA Review 2[edit]

I'm taking over this review. Here's what I found during my initial look through the article:

  • The lead should be about 3 or 4 paragraphs summarizing all the main points of the article.
  • Header tips: 1) only the first letter of the first word and proper nouns should be capitalized - Edited some
  • See WP:DASH for correct dash usage. I see some definite problems here.
  • Citations should be after punctuation without a space between the citation number and the punctuation character. Try to do this as best as possible, although there are times when it is impossible.
  • "4th" and "2nd" - spelling these out is much more professional - Done
  • "Ruby Lin in the media" - it is best to avoid putting the subject of the article in the headers. Simply "Media" would be much better. - Done
  • The quote in "Harassing calls" needs a source. - Done
  • Personal quotes should be removed or integrated into the text (with sources!). Actually, it would be best to move them to WikiQuote. - Done
  • Image:Clipcapturedpic.jpg needs a fair use rationale. - Done
  • Please see WP:EL about appropriate external links to list. For example, fansites are not allowed unless they are official. - Done
  • A general copyedit would do a world of good. I saw missing punctuation, capitalization mistakes, spacing mistakes, etc.

The article will remain on hold for one week to allow for improvements. Thanks. Nikki311 22:38, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The seven days are up, and there hasn't been enough improvement to pass the article. I'd recommend a good copyedit, as that would fix the majority of the issues that are left. A peer review may also be helpful. Good luck! Nikki311 17:39, 14 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sources[edit]

I think we have a nice long list of sources here, however... would anyone out there mind translating everything into English? Me and another user worked extensively on Ayumi Hamasaki and it went through two peer reviews, two FA reviews (failed), and good article review (pass; which is what its status is currently). We were told to translate all the Japanese and Chinese sources into English, and he did so promptly. I can read some of the sources but I'm too lazy to go translate everything. I think it would really help this article move up in its status. Lady Galaxy 20:08, 28 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Copyediting for 2011[edit]

It has been almost 3 years since the Good-Article (GA) reviews, and I have completed the tedious copy-editing for WP:GOCE, which removed a section of 5 duplicate sentences about commercial endorsements/modeling, plus added some commas. The article seemed huge, but typical for a thorough coverage of the topic. I was concerned about the 5 sections of 70-word quotes, where copyright concerns typically limit text to 10-word quotes, so perhaps some quotes could be shortened, with at most 3 phrases of 10-word quotes where 70-word quotes were used, when the original text is copyrighted. -Wikid77 13:25, 12 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

edited some quote, though still too long. For copyright, it would be better detele those quotes? -getdownbe 11 May 2012 (UTC)

Assessment comment[edit]

The comment(s) below were originally left at Talk:Ruby Lin/Comments, and are posted here for posterity. Following several discussions in past years, these subpages are now deprecated. The comments may be irrelevant or outdated; if so, please feel free to remove this section.

this could be a-quality or at least a GA nominee, if somebody would clean up some of the awkward phrasing and capitalisation errors (the captions often do not capitalise Ruby Lin's name). it has all the other qualities it needs to be a Good Article (inline citations, pictures with captions, comprehensive coverage, etc.) --Sapphic 17:34, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
