The SOA Governance: Reengineering IT Governance (Zap Think Article) states the following: “SOA governance is IT governance in the context of SOA, rather than governance of SOA.” It might be worth making a similar statement in the Wikipedia entry. --BrianSHayes 21:47, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

Hello, I'm a bit new to discussion pages, so I apologise in advance for any mistakes. It strikes me that SOA Governance is even more slippery a concept than SOA itself. I think some fundamental questions are in order, starting with Who needs to be governed?

Often ICT is capitalised on a project basis to solve a particular business problem. Asking project managers to think about broader base of consumers than what's in scope for them creates an economic problem. I think governance suggests exercising a certain coercive-ness on these seemingly unruly projects. Though they are, of course, obeying a rule set appropriate to their scope.

Also I think there is merit in exploring incentives for good behaviour within the context of governance. --Osterby 00:31, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

Worst Article on a Governance Topic

Hi, sorry but that is the worst article on a governance topic I have ever seen. The content is nonsense and does not have to do anything with governance. Governance is NOT managing (not in IT governance or Corporate governance). Governance is about who makes what decisions and the governance mechanisms. Quoting b***sh** from consulting companies without thinking about the quote is very very dangerous and the probability that you quote something wrong is very high (like in this case). I have to acknowledge that there is not much academic stuff about this topic yet, but if you want to write something about it you should start thinking about what governance is and not uoting nonsense.

"Monitoring SOA performance is important because of the composition of services – one service may forward tasks to several other services." - Not Soa Governance relevant. Relevant for Soa Governance is monitoring and assessing the governance, its mechanisms, structures and governance processes.

The same argument for every paragraph. This article describes SOA Management but not SOA Governance. Please change the article or I put it on the list for potential deletion (because in this article every sentence is wrong). RememberSoa 09:00, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

Although I do not agree with your tone, you have a point in your disagreement on the contents of the article. It was too much directed towards management, and it could have been more to the point. I've done some rewriting to improve the quality and focus more on governance. I have made the decision that monitoring should be involved in governance because of several articles I've read. As stated in the article, there are narrower and broader definitions of (SOA) governance.

Please feel free to make changes, that's the reason I put this story on wikipedia. Since the only changes that have been made were by tooling vendors adding their own tool, I've deleted this part. Tomschepers 13:11, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
