Panama Canal
In regard to the SS Pennsylvanian being one of the first ships to travel eastbound on the Panama Canal...
The article says the the passage was made on a New York bound journey, which implies the passage was from the Pacific to the Atlantic Ocean. The geography of the Panama Canal is not intuitive: it does not run east/west, but generally north/south. Oddly, the Atlantic entrance is slightly west of the Pacific entrance. Therefore, a Pacific to Atlantic transit would be northward and slightly westward, not eastward.
A small point, but nonetheless, there is an error.

Redundant sentence
The first section "Design and construction" ends with the sentence "It was built by the Maryland Steel Company, Sparrows Point, Maryland." Such is implied by the previous text, given that the order was placed with Maryland Steel and the ship built in one of its yards. I'm curious that a featured article has what looks like an editing error.
