Link[edit]

I dod not know how I should add a link to the TV show on the subject Extreme Engineering on Discovery Channel. Someone please add this link in correctly.

Don't know how to do the link, but I have seen a repeat of the show on U.K.T.V.--86.25.53.161 05:51, 20 June 2007 (UTC) Yep.--86.29.252.167 13:21, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

unemployment[edit]

Corrected the ridiculous claim that Sakhalin-1 made unemployment non-existent in Sakhalin. Radchenk (talk) 13:01, 17 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Context[edit]

Congratulations to all involved for making In The News, but you know what that means... stupid question time! Specifically, it would be nice to understand whether these world record boreholes are something that can only happen in this one spot due to it being a subduction zone, or could there be similar wells in the works all the way around the Pacific Ring of Fire, or even elsewhere? Also, it would be nice to get an idea of the depth of this well relative to the Moho discontinuity in this same spot. Wnt (talk) 08:02, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"depth"[edit]

This article repeatedly refers to the length of the hole as its "depth." But, in fact, the depth is how deep it goes; that is, its distance from the surface of the earth.

In the case of wells which are dug beneath the sea, "depth" could refer to either the distance below the seabed, or the distance below the surface of the sea. But it certainly doesn't mean the total length of the hole including the horizontal portion. NCdave (talk) 09:44, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

12345[edit]

Did they intend to dig that hole exactly 12345 metres deep, or is it just a coincidence? JIP | Talk 18:46, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
