Non-article info for Salemites[edit]

Would this be the right place on the internet to have information of interest to Salemites, such as information on Crybaby Bridge, Sound Electronics, Hippy Wayne, REO Speedwagon parties, The Ghost in the Oilfields, the Steam Tunnels, what lies underneath the old Brown Shoe Factory, the Fletcher compound, etc? "Days of Our Lives"[edit]

Heh! For awhile now, they have had a map of, Illinois, in the office of the police commissioner. A subtle hint to reinforce the notion that they have finally chosen a state for their fictional, "City of Salem". Most dialogue supports them being near, Chicago.

However, their mailing address labels still use, "Salem, U.S.A.", as do other documents. They also are the county seat of, "Salem County".

Is there room in the article for a, "Pop Culture" section? Hmm. LeoStarDragon1 (talk) 07:58, 30 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

How can I add a screenshot of the map? LeoStarDragon1 (talk) 07:59, 30 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Non-notable musician[edit]

To the IP who wants to promote Jared Simmons: your best option to have Simmons included in the Notable people section is to write the article about him first. If you are able to find neutral, reliable sources that mention him (not just promotional websites), you will have a better chance of having the article accepted, and then you will have no problem including him in the list of notable people. By no means, however, should you completely revert someone else's edits because you disapprove of one portion of the edit. It is not at all hard to simply copy out the part that you didn't want deleted and paste it back in. If you hadn't wholesale reverted me, I would never have noticed. But now this article's on my watchlist. Please observe Wikipedia standards on notability going forward. Ken Gallager (talk) 13:35, 27 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ken, you are the one who did not follow Wiki guidelines for content removal. Let's try to avoid ad hominems and stick to known facts. According to Wiki standards, you can reference a notable person without them having a dedicated article, and content removal must be explained. I had no idea what content you removed because you made multiple edits at once and didn't explain why the edit history said a significant amount of text was removed. "All removals must be explained and in some cases discussed" according to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Content_removal 2603:8001:7500:18CE:29A6:8DEC:187:F291 (talk) 01:05, 1 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

WP:CRV is an opinion essay, not a guideline. Ken was also correct to remove the non notable person. See WP:GNG. The easiest way to demonstrate notability is for the person to have their own article. Dual Freq (talk) 03:08, 1 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Also, IP, you need to remember that wholesale revert of an edit is not the way to go when you have an issue with just one portion of it. --Ken Gallager (talk) 13:22, 1 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
A subsection of notable people in an article is a kind of list, so might I point all involved to this? As has been mentioned above, the sure way to go is to have an article about the person in question. I have pending-changes protected the article to further discussion, and the IP(s) are invited to create an account(s)...which will make it much easier for all involved to work towards a consensus. Lectonar (talk) 13:53, 9 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

So the page is unprotected again, and Simmons was once again added to the list of residents. I haven't yet seen any new info as to why he should be included in the list. Remember, it is the responsibility of the person adding the listing to justify it, not that of the person removing it. (See WP:BRD.) Editor was Bold in re-adding Simmons, it has now been Reverted, so please now Discuss here why we should make an exception to the notability guideline for this person. Or else we will have to re-protect the page. Ken Gallager (talk) 17:48, 5 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Stand-alone lists#Lists of people does not require a separate article. A notable event, such as the one originally provided when Simmons was added is sufficient. Since Notable People is a list, a singular event applies. 2603:8001:7500:18CE:8DAE:8830:9F9C:C072 (talk) 00:21, 12 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:NOTEWORTHY&redirect=no this may also be helpful for further consideration. You are being reactive because someone removed your edits instead of just adding Simmons back 4 months ago, but you need to also adhere to Wikipedia's standards. 2603:8001:7500:18CE:8DAE:8830:9F9C:C072 (talk) 00:28, 12 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
We're stuck, then. I've requested a third opinion. Ken Gallager (talk) 12:54, 12 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, here to give a 3O. 2603:8001:7500:18CE:8DAE:8830:9F9C:C072, the source you cited when you added Jared Simmons doesn't mention him at all. I think you need a stronger source than that to justify including him here. For myself, I looked around online a bit and could barely find anything about him. I agree that he doesn't necessarily need a whole Wikipedia article to merit inclusion here, although it's true that it would be the easiest way to make your case. However, if you wanted to convince me that he was notable enough even for just a mention on this page, I would at least want to see a newspaper article from a reputable paper that focuses on him, or a third-party magazine or book from a well-known publisher that spends a page or two on him—that sort of thing. 🍉◜◞ↂ🄜e𝚜𝚘𝚌𝚊r🅟ම𛱘‎🥑《 𔑪‎talk〗⇤ 19:32, 12 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sundown town?[edit]

is there any noteable proof of Salem being a sundown town? To my knowledge, there were a couple of well respected black families that lived here in the 1800s. If not the "sundown town" should be removed from cover story of our town. 47.40.34.64 (talk) 11:39, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
