Not notable[edit]

I think it's judgement notability doesn't give notability to this guy. Only if, in the future, the Supreme Court decission on this case becomed an influential precedent, and that precedent were know by this guy's name, I think he could be notable. In the future. If that happens. --euyyn 15:46, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The precedent is already known by his name. A google search on "Hamdan v. Rumsfeld" gets 227,000 hits. -- Geo Swan 22:14, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
So we would only have to wait to see if it becomes an influential precedent, not only a popular case... --euyyn 08:11, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

name in Arabic?[edit]

Do we know how to spell his name in Arabic? --Max power 11:08, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tribal stuff[edit]

What's the deal with this addition? Is this perhaps meant for Hamdan which is currently a redirect to this page? Cleduc 05:16, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

military commission not a "court"[edit]

  1. I think it is a mistake to describe the military commission as a "court" -- it is not a court of law, with established rules of evidence, precedent, etc. The office of military commissions is still making up the rules as they go along.
  2. I think it is a mistake to call Brownback and Allred judges. They are Presiding officers. Calling them judges implies the commission are courts of law with established rules of evidence, precedent, etc. Similarly, their rulings are not "court rulings".

add image[edit]

Earlier I added an image I got from a Guantanamo publication. At the time I thought a DoD sketch artist drew the sketch. Now I am not so sure. So I excised it.

block quotes[edit]

what is with the block quotes in the lower part of the page? it's inconsistent with a majority of wikipedia articles. Lihaas (talk) 18:08, 26 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest a split -- create an article devoted just to his military commissions[edit]

I suggest a split -- create an article devoted just to his military commissions.

There is so much new material emerging from his military commission that it could overwhelm this article.

I suggest that this article should mainly be about:

  • Hamdan's life;
  • his alleged association with terrorism (which is different from what he is charged with)
  • his detention in Guantanamo;
  • his CSR Tribunal.

One or two short paragraphs here should introduce Hamdam v. Rumsfeld. And one or two short paragraphs here should introduce USA v. Hamdan.

I find it remarkable that in this entire article Charles Swift is mentioned only once, and in passing. Charles Swift is the chief architect of Salim Hamdan's case. Salim Hamdan has a 4th grade education, does not speak English and tried to kill himself numerous times. Hamden basically had little or nothing to do with anything, it was all Swift's idea and doing to challenge the President. Anyway, this excellent 45 min film explains it all. Dramatic story.[1]

Small Sections[edit]

The large number of small sections in this article makes it very difficult to read. Is it really necessary to have all these small sections? What is the section called "Phone Call" about? Am I missing something or does it seem completely trivial? Poyani (talk) 22:22, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
