16 years on, I've read the novel myself specially for this article. I'm afraid I can't share Daniell's high opinion of it. It seems to me to be an uneasy mix of 'shocker' and historical novel, and has too many plot holes for my liking. MichaelMaggs (talk) 16:15, 18 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
