Resigned?[edit]

Sources are saying he "resigned" today, and editors are altering the article accordingly. But all he's said is that he won't be returning to the Senate when it resumes in February 2018. Yes, he announced an "intention" to resign, prior to the first 2018 Senate sitting. Looks like we will have to be vigilant over this and other articles for the next few weeks. WWGB (talk) 05:27, 12 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

But he is not a "former senator". He has NOT yet actually resigned, despite what the media would have us believe. He said he would be resigning prior to the 2018 parliamentary year, which starts in February 2018. That is still 2 months away. Nationality[edit]

Why is one of Dastyari's nationalities listed as Iranian? All Australian parliamentarians are required to renounce foreign ties. I propose this be amended. Cavalryman V31 (talk) 09:42, 2 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

His Iranian nationality isn't legally renounced. He has merely applied for it's renunciation and signed statutory declarations in Australia to reaffirm his Australian allegiance, keep in mind Section 44 of the Constitution doesn't require a foreign nationality to be forfeited, merely an attempt to abandon is permissible, I would also like to note that visiting any country, even one that you're a citizen of, when you present a foreign passport and being issued a visa means nothing as well. It could be administrative error, it could mean they even accept his Australian documentation and citizenship but it by no means indicates a renunciation of citizenship. This is basic stuff people.
