News release[edit]

On Jan 1, 2014, an anonymous user, without explanation, tagged this entry as resembling a "news release" and did so without explanation. I removed that tag. The article needs improvement, to be sure, but the tag is not merited and no one has made an appropriate argument here that it is. Thoughts? Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 19:05, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I did some rewriting. It was all a little breathless. The Mayor of Salt Lake officiated a several weddings. There's so much context that we don't need to say: "of those who were waiting in line to obtain their marriage licenses". Some of it was just the kind of writing that we do when we're updating with each new development and don't stop to streamline and integrate new info into old. At some point we can probably reduce the section on requests for a stay -- leave that detail to the entry devoted to the court case itself, and here we can just say several requests for a stay were denied by the district and 10th circuit and then the Supreme Court did X. And I found ways to remove citations to a tweet and a blog without losing any info. Bmclaughlin9 (talk) 19:42, 2 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hunger Strike worth mentioning?[edit]

Trestin Meacham is on a hunger strike and won't eat until Utah nullifies the Federal Judge's decision allowing Same Sex marriage in Utah. Treatment of the marriages under stay[edit]

Does anyone have any info on this? I've read it may not be like the Prop 8 Limbo marriages, as Prop 8 was a law after they were licensed, whereas these were made long after a law which, while under the stayed decision, is valid again. Permanent injunction in Evans v. Herbert[edit]
