Paragraph[edit]

The following is a somewhat redundant paragraph someone placed at the end of the article:

The San Francisco Mime Troupe is a Tony and OBIE Award winning theatre of political comedy, which performs free shows in various parks in the San Francisco Bay Area and around California. The group was founded in 1959 by R. G. Davis with the idea of bringing complex political analysis to the masses in an entertaining, informative way. Using traditional Commedia del'Arte, American Melodrama, and their own particular style, the Mime Troupe has always tried to reach the widest possible audience with it's message of comedy, political engagement, and a working class perspective that is sometimes lacking in main-stream theatre. In the early 1970's the Troupe reformed as a collective, and has operated without an Artistic Director ever since. The Mime Troupe creates at least one original musical comedy each year, examining, dissecting, and satirizing political questions of the times -- everything from CIA involvement in the heroine trade during the Vietnam War, to African debt relief, to the Palestinian/Israeli two state solution, to stolen elections and Corporate Dictatorship. As well as the park-based shows, the San Francisco Mime Troupe also tours nationally, internationally, and runs a series of workshops. They are a non-profit organization. The season traditionally starts on Fourth of July Weekend and ends on Labor Day Weekend.

If there is anything from this moved paragraph that anyone feels is worth adding into the stub article then please feel free to do so. --Cab88 15:32, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ad?[edit]

The Performances section reads like an advertisement. It should be replaced with a list of the Troupe's performances to date, or deleted. — Morganfitzp 21:10, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Note (apparently) from R.G. Davis[edit]

The R.G.Davis Mime Troupe was formed in late 1959 the San Francisco MIME TROUPE BECAME A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION IN 1965 - SEE DOCUMENTS IN THE SFMT OFFICE AND California State Offices.

NOTE I, R.G. Davis came to San Francisco in 1959 and opened a Studio the R.G.Davis Mime Studio and was a member of the San Francisco Actors Workshop 1960 through 1963. There was no such thing as the SF Mime Troupe officially until 1965. Check the record and the dates elsewhere.

see R.G.Davis Papers in University of California Davis, Archives.
