San Clara or Santa Clara[edit]

The 1917 Hammond map indicated that this province was named Santa Clara, but the 1919 Automobile Blue Book map indicates San Clara. Does anyone have a more definitive reference? Caerwine 15:06, 19 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Surely San is an abbreviation of Santo - but not of Santa, so San seems wrong.

But do former provinces need their own pages anyway ?

Moved page to Santa Clara Province, Cuba. Quote "A la provincia en ciertas épocas se le ha llamado Santa Clara." [1] (In certain times, the [Las Villas] province was called Santa Clara). San Clara is, indeed, grammatically incorrect. Qyd (talk)17:14, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Main Page: Santa Clara or Las Villas?[edit]

Why isn't the main page Las Villas, as this is the modern name for the province, is it not?? At least, that is my understanding. As I am only a passer-by, I will not make any changes, but I should think the the modern name is to be preferred. What is the official Cuban government designation? "Las Villas" was the name between 1940 and 1978. Nowadays it's Villa Clara. But this article is about the historic province.--Qyd 17:28, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
