Title[edit]

Why is it called Santa Cruz department. I would think Santa Cruz is a region or state or province. Department doesnt sound right. Any opinion on this.Docku (talk) 20:19, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bolivia consists of nine (Spanish:) "departamentos", one of them is Santa Cruz. -- Meister (talk) 18:50, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply. I am just wondering that a direct translation of Spanish "Departmentos" to English "Departments" may not reflect the real meaning. In other words, Is there any difference in meaning between Spanish "Departmentos" and English "State" or "Province".Docku (talk) 19:04, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
A "departamento" in Bolivia is a subnational entity, and is comparable to a "State" in the USA or other countries. -- Meister (talk) 19:25, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That helps. Wouldnt it be appropriate then to call it a state than department. Department in English should mean a small entity of a big organisation (like History Department in a University for example) rather than a geographical denomination.Docku (talk) 19:44, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Integrate Santa Cruz in Argentina[edit]

Santa Cruz has a mestizo majority like the Northern Argentinian provinces and would be better off becoming part of the Republic of Argentina. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.32.121.29 (talk) 21:56, 12 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
