This bio article needs to be tightened up. Also I feel that some the statements are POV and a more formal tone be adopted. This article also gives me the impression that is a promotional bio on the singer, who BTW I admire for her powerful voice and range. RashBold Talk to me 17:34, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

I also agree. The bio also needs to be backed up by more reliable sources since some indicate bias. -Isenna (talk) 05:34, 2 April 2020 (UTC)

What Philippine music charts?

The Philippines doe not have a music chart that is comparable to America's Billboard and Japan's Oricon. How valid are those chart positions in the article? Failure to reply within three days would mean erasure of such. Starczamora (talk) 21:19, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

Since no one bothered to reply, I deleted it. Sorry na lang. Starczamora (talk) 20:15, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

As of now, Philippines has no music charts that is elaborate as AMA but we have the so called MYX Music Awards where the nominees will win through online votes. There's also awarding ceremony held annually. This award-giving body also include Foreign Artist in their online poll. Pretty7533 (talk) 12:15, 20 December 2016 (UTC)

Tone & POV

This article needs to be brought in line with Wikiproject Biography guidelines, such as using her last, not first name (as seems to be the case throughout), and cutting out POV statements. --BrokenSphereMsg me 15:45, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Assessment comment

I think C Class is appropriate, the article has problems with peacock words, spelling, and sourcing. Something like "thousands of screaming fans" and "versatile enough to conquer every genre" doesn't belong into the article, and these are just examples. Her website, YouTube, Asianfanatics.net, titikpilipino.com, etc. cannot be considered reliable sources. I also think there is a problem with close paraphrasing of a primary source in how her website's bio is adapted. Overall, the page seems to resemble a fanpage as of now. Once these problems are taken care of the article can be surely be rated higher. Regards Hekerui (talk) 09:53, 30 December 2009 (UTC)

I am commenting here following a new request for reassessment at Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography/Assessment. The article still appears to be at C-class. The "Early years" section relies entirely on the self-published biography on her website and feels far too gushy for a serious article. The section needs to gain a more clinical/factual tone; for example, "The family business went bankrupt, it was harder to sustain the expenses of her auditions.[4] All at once, there was a sickness in the family, they were being driven out of their house because they could no longer pay the rent, they do not have the tuition money to sustain their education, and making ends meet became impossible." could become "Bankruptcy of the family business and sickness in the family lead to financial problems, making it difficult to afford audition and tuition fees." Looking further down the article there is far too much non-neutral phrasing for this to reach B-class. Road Wizard (talk) 01:29, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

Voice

This section has been removed due to unreliable source. Although many, music experts in the internet says that this is accurate still, this is not yet confirm.

Geronimo is known for singing different kinds of genre because of her versatility.[1] Critically acclaimed by mimicking the voices of her idols Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Beyonce Knowles, Christina Aguillera, Alicia Keys and Regine Velasquez. To date, Her lowest note so far is Bb2 in her live performance I Believe I Can Fly (which can be shown in her U.S. tour of The Next One) and her highest note she reached so far with the use of high falsetto is C7 (super high falsetto/headtone) with the song of Bohemian Rhapsody and Healing which she sung in ASAP.[2][3] And her second highest note in live performance is F6 with the song I'll Be There which she sung in her Record Breaker concert at the Araneta Colesium last November 7, 2009.[4] Currently, her vocal range would be 4 octaves and 3 notes.

In studio performance, her highest pitch is A7 with the song of Forever's Not Enough at the final chorus. While her second highest note in studio performance is G6 with the song If Only (Sarah Geronimo song). [5][6]--Rars07 (talk) 05:59, 31 December 2009 (UTC)

  • "Many music experts say" is a weaselish phrase. Such claims need to be backed up by reliable sources, and YouTube is not such a source. Besides, distilling that information from these YouTube videos constitutes original research, and that's not OK. The last one of the links mentioned here, BTW, is to another Wikipedia article, and Wikipedia is not a reliable source for Wikipedia. Drmies (talk) 17:34, 30 December 2009 (UTC)

This deleted section is so funny. definitely false and overrated. Does the contributor even know how high C7 is? Sarah struggles in E5 whether belt, mix, or falsetto/headtone, how can she possibly handle a note more than an octave higher? lol And talk about outright stupidity, an A7 in Forever's not..? That's 3 notes higher than M. Carey's highest whistle note in Emotions. Don't get me wrong, I like Sarah G and all but to say things she's really not capable of doing (or at least hasn't done yet) is just plain stupid. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.192.171.2 (talk) 13:51, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

Sarah G's highest note reached (if I'm not mistaken) is E6. Pretty7533 (talk) 11:48, 20 December 2016 (UTC)

Influences

This section as been removed due to lack of sources.

In her early years Geronimo drew frequent comparisons to Celine Dion and Regine Velasquez in terms of vocals and singing style, and she cited both as influential.[1][2] Her lifelong dream was to one day meet and perform with her idol, Michael Jackson,[3] because of the way he interacted with his fans during his concerts.[4] Geronimo is also known for doing Jackson's moves like "Moonwalk".[1] She also sang different songs of Jackson in her concerts as a tribute to his idol.[5] the best singer in the world!!!!!!!!!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.38.18.117 (talk) 00:27, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

Review by Figureskatingfan

As requested, I'm doing an informal review of this article. The request was that I focus on neutrality, so I will do that, plus whatever else I observe. I tend to review articles differently than others; instead of listing every grammar issue, I like to focus on global issues do a copyedit to address the more picky stuff.

Images

  • I wonder if you could include more images here. Make sure that they're free use, though, and that you get another editor's input, since image reviews aren't my strong point. Regarding the caption in the infobox's image: What is PLDT? I see that you link it later on. I suggest that you write out the whole name and then the acronym, and that when it appears for the first time later on, explain what it is.
PLDT means Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company.--White paladin888 (talk) 13:21, 20 February 2010 (UTC)

Headings

  • Make sure that you read WP:HEAD, and make corrections as necessary, please.

Lead

  • Born to a large, indigent family... What does the word indigent mean? Don't assume your readers know what you mean. Define, define, define.
Indigent means "One who is poor and cannot afford basic neccessities of life like food, shelter and clothes".
I guess I didn't define what I meant good enough. What I need about define is that assume that I, the humble reader, knows very little about what you're talking about. Perhaps instead of saying "define," I should've said "explain". If I wanted a definition, I'd crack open a dictionary. How was Sarah and her family "indigent"?

I think we should use the word "Poor" then? since it is more appropriate. —Preceding unsigned comment added by White paladin888 (talkcontribs) 03:56, 22 February 2010 (UTC)

This is probably a good solution; let me go through and see how I can improve it, kay? --Christine (talk) 05:41, 4 March 2010 (UTC)
My solution: "financially-struggling", which is much better than "indigent" or "poor" or even "lower economic class". --Christine (talk) 06:00, 19 March 2010 (UTC)

Childhood and early beginnings

  • She grew up in a rented house in Santa Cruz... Again, explain what you mean by "a rented house". I'd guess that it has to do with her family's economic status, but the context neither confirms or disproves that assumption. That's why you need to tell me. Is it possible that there's some significance to the phrase in Filipino society? I honestly don't know, since I'm an ugly American who knows very little about Geronimo's culture, so you need to explain these cultural differences to me.
Rented house.. umm... it means that a house you're living is not yours and you only rent it or pay it because you don't have the money to buy your OWN house. hope it helps.--White paladin888 (talk) 11:05, 20 February 2010 (UTC)

  • Geronimo had two sister: Jonnah Rizzie, Sunshine Grace, and a brother: Ezekiel Gabriel. I've never seen a stated policy about it, but I'm pretty sure that stating the names of siblings and children is frowned upon in WP, unless they're notable themselves. There are privacy reasons for that, and stating these names isn't necessary. I'm not even sure it's necessary to state them, unless it has some bearing on content later on, or if it's important. For example, in one of my pet articles, Anthony Field, it states that Field is the youngest sibling of seven children. That's included, without listing them all out, because Field's large family has been important throughout his career, and his BLP demonstrates that. For this article, though, I'd delete it.
  • Why is Geronimo singing Pasko Na Naman important? Is the song important in Filipino culture? If so, tell me and leave it as a redlink to encourage a new article. If not, it's trivia, and doesn't need to be there.
I think you should remove it.--White paladin888 (talk) 11:05, 20 February 2010 (UTC)

  • To train her voice, his father trained her several hours a day by singing with her body submerged into a water barrel. Well, that's interesting. Why was that? You may need to go back to the original source to tell me.
it is like umm. exercising the lungs to make it stronger or to train the person to hit high notes.--White paladin888 (talk) 11:05, 20 February 2010 (UTC)

  • ...the bankruptcy of the family business and sickness in the family led to financial problems... Who was ill? Did the doctors' bills hurt the family's finances?

Career breakthrough: 2002-2003

  • She won PHP 1 million... Is PHP Filipino currency? If so, is there a notation standard, a la US$?
Yes. PHP is a filipino currency. Sorry but, what do you mean about notation standard?--White paladin888 (talk) 11:05, 20 February 2010 (UTC)
Ok, my turn to define. I wondered if there was a convention to link the denomination, like US$ or AUS$. I did some research, and found that there is not, at least not in the same way. I know this seems picky, but I can tell you that you'd be dinged on it if you took this to FAC. I went ahead and this: PHP to each instance, and I'll improve it further as I copyedit. --Christine (talk) 05:46, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

  • He was particularly astounded by Geronimo's ability to not only learn a song fast but style it almost worthy patent. It's pretty obvious that the main editor of this article is written by someone whose first language isn't English. This sentence is why I say that. I'm not even sure what it means, and it may be worthwhile to go back to the original source to find out. Actually, this article is full of grammar errors; a good copyedit should take care of that. One of the best benefits of editing for WP, I've found, is that your English writing skills greatly improve with all the mentorship that goes on here. It takes practice to get one of your pet articles successfully through FAC, along with a lot of help from other editors.
  • Make sure that you read the "Quotation marks" section in WP:PUNC, in the WP:MOS. There are errors in the use of quotes throughout.
  • Watch your formatting. The fourth paragraph in this section has some incorrect italics that should be fixed.
  • It is a regional semi-finalist for the 2008 International Emmy Awards under the Television Program category. I see that this Emmy award is awarded differently than in the US. You need to explain that some.

References

  • It doesn't much matter the format you use in citing your sources (my fav is WP:CT), but yours is not. I suggest reading WP:CS to familiarize yourself with how to cite your sources.
  • Please read WP:SPS, the policy about self-published sources. Using a BLP's webpage isn't always inappropriate, but I recommend doing your best to avoid it. If you can find the same information in a more reliable source, use it instead of the webpage. Some people state that if you can't, you should remove the information. I don't, but I suspect that if you were to take this article to GA and definitely to FA, you may get pinged on it.
  • I haven't checked it out at this glance, but are there some non-English sources here? If so, you'll have to get another expert's opinion about the accuracy of the translations and their reliability.

Thanks for the opportunity to review this article; I learned a lot about an interesting individual I had never heard of. I think that it has the potential to go far, if its editors are committed to doing what it takes to improve it. I think that once the content and grammar issues are addressed, this article will be much improved. I'll try and do a copyedit in the coming days.

Questions

As I'm copyediting this article, some questions have come up, so I thought I'd record them here for White paladin888 to answer, if you wouldn't mind, dear. ;)

hehehe.. sure..--White paladin888 (talk) 13:48, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
Good. Wanted to let you know that I've seen your responses, and intend on addressing them. I like to wiki-mentor, so I'm more than happy to do so, since it's sure to make us both better editors. I'm a content editor, and have received my fair share of mentoring here myself, so I enjoy passing it forward, as they say. For some reason, though, I have this urge to call you "dear," like the old lady that I am. If I'm overstepping, please let me know. ;) --Christine (talk) 20:20, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
Overstepping? no! no! it's fine with me since I'm only 17! hehehe.. Again, thank you for sharing your knowledge and for being a good mentor. Anyway, what does ce means?--White paladin888 (talk) 01:08, 9 March 2010 (UTC)
Ah, had a feeling that you were really young. I appreciate that you're willing to learn from this old lady. One of the most valuable things I've gained from this project is the improvement of my writing skills, a lost art in this digital age, I think. Being able to write well is still an important skill to have, though, since so there's so much potential for loads of content, and there are lots of people around who will help. Oh, ce means "copyedit". --Christine (talk) 05:43, 9 March 2010 (UTC)
Oh! I see! ce means "copyedit", thanks for that! Yeah! I'm always willing to learn and I also believe that writing is one of the most important skill to learn by a human being. Again, thank you for everything!--White paladin888 (talk) 13:06, 9 March 2010 (UTC)
  • After a week of its release, the album was certified gold, and quickly achieved the triple platinum status selling more than 90,000 copies nationwide.[15][24] I'm a little confused about the timing here. The album was released, and a week later it became gold; that's clear. It's the next phrase that's problematic, at least to me. When did it achieve platinum? Before or after selling the 90,000 copies? I'd go to the sources to figure it out myself, but #15 doesn't include anything about how many albums sold, and #24 isn't accessible. I have no problem using sources that aren't easily accessible (like books), but the reference in its current format tells me nothing about where you got the information. As I've stated previously, I have some issues with your sourcing in this article, but I'll address them when I'm done with the ce. I believe some of the issues that other editors have with this article will be solved with a good ce. Just please be patient with me; it may take several days. --Christine (talk) 06:12, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
I fixed the sources now :) ummm it achieved platinum when it sold 30,000 copies therefore, it is now 3x platinum because today, it already sold 90,000 copies. There's no good articles and sources that clarifies the exact date of achieving it's platinum status.--White paladin888 (talk) 13:48, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
  • Geronimo performed in the Night of the Champions concert at the Araneta Coliseum with other singing competition winners Rachelle Ann Go and Erik Santos, followed by a tour in the US.[25] Again with the timing. Did Sarah go on the US tour with Go and Santos, or on her own? --Christine (talk) 18:04, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
Reading a bit further, it looks like S.G. performed with the other two singers because she went on to fill a stadium on her own and make a second tour with them. This needs to be made more clear, though.
Yes she went on a US tour with Go and Santos. Umm do you need more sources? if so.. I'll try to find one.--White paladin888 (talk) 13:58, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
  • On September 29, 2005, Geronimo staged her first major concert at the Araneta Coliseum entitled The Other Side, is the first time she filled the Big Dome. Geronimo’s audience and supporters stayed until the end of the concert despite the fact that The Dome became one huge oven when the air conditioning units failed to function.[6] changed to: On September 29, 2005, Geronimo performed a solo concert for the first time at the Dome and filled it to capacity, even though the air conditioning broke down during the concert.[6]
I'm including my version of this sentence because it demonstrates a couple of things. My version is more succinct. I would've used the "one huge oven" line, which I suspect is from the source, but I wasn't able to access it because the site required a subscription. Now, I don't believe that every source has to be accessible, since depending upon the topic, it's not always possible if you want to do justice to the subject. However, for this article, for this girl, I think that most of the sources need to be accessible to the reader. If you want to use this source, fine--just don't bother with the URL. That being said, if you want to use the oven reference (it's so great), go ahead, but say something like: According to Jojo Panaligan of the Manila Bulletin, Geronimo's audience stayed for the entire concert "despite the fact that The Dome became one huge oven" when the air conditioning broke. Or however the wording goes. --Christine (talk) 04:45, 7 March 2010 (UTC)
Well.. I think we should use the OVEN thing.. since the Araneta Coliseum is really like a BIG OVEN when the air condition failed to function. Even in source #14 (in her biography site), one of the sentence there says "Her first concert at the Araneta Coliseum, entitled "The Other Side of Sarah Geronimo" (2005), was a sold out concert. Sarah's supporters stayed until the end of the concert despite the fact that The Dome became one huge oven when the air conditioning units failed to function". Therefore, I think it is BETTER TO USE THE OVEN THING! hehehe..--White paladin888 (talk) 13:58, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
  • De Walden said that Geronimo was "definitely the biggest talent I have come across with the last ten years". He was particularly astounded by Geronimo's ability to not only learn a song fast but style it almost worthy patent.
I changed the above to: De Walden said that Geronimo was "definitely the biggest talent I have come across...the last ten years". He was particularly astounded by Geronimo's ability to not only learn a song quickly but to give it her own distinctive style. It's obvious that the source was at least a translation, because come across with the last ten years is inaccurate English. That's why I deleted with and added the elipses. Please tell me if the second sentence is accurate. I'm assuming that's what the writer of the Manila Bulletin meant. Also, notice how I changed the format of the reference. When I'm done with this ce, I'm going to do a source review, but since I have the source in front of me, I went ahead and changed it. Be warned, white paladin, dear, that I will give you assignments to improve the sources in this article! ;) --Christine (talk) 05:45, 7 March 2010 (UTC)
I think you did the right thing to change some lines. Manila bulletin is a VERY GOOD sources since it is a Good News paper without bias and such. But I think the writer translate De Walden's words (of course english words) into the news paper in different form. Source review? I think we should do it. And of course, I'm willing to improve those sources! I will gladly accept your assignments :). Anyway, Thank you again for helping me to work in this article :).--White paladin888 (talk) 14:06, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
  • After a couple of days break due to RL busyness, I'm back. Gonna try and finish the ce tonight. I just cut this: Singer Billy Crawford was one of the guest that night said that: “You know Sarah, I'm one of your million fans. I've told you this, you're awesome, you're amazing.. You are so blessed that's why I've told you, Sarah, You're The One”.[1] Backstreet Boy member Howie Dorough also took time to help her for this concert when he pre-taped the song "I'll Be There" and Sarah sang it along with him during one segment of the show.[1] The reason I cut it is that I'm not sure that it's important content. Also, the source this info is from may be not be the most reliable. The article reads like a fan review of Sarah's concert, like it was from a blog. I think that the piano accompaniment is important, so I didn't cut it. Actually, this brings up a couple of points about this article, but I'll come back to it later. --Christine (talk) 05:00, 15 March 2010 (UTC)
  • Another cut, because it lacked a source: In mid-2009 she recorded the theme song of Sunsilk, "Record Breaker," which has been included in her upcoming album “Music and Me”. If you find one, go ahead and resubmit it. I suspect that this was written by one of those fans referred to in the tag on top of this thing. ;) --Christine (talk) 05:50, 15 March 2010 (UTC)
I think this is a good source since it's from a news paper and it's site as well: http://www.mb.com.ph/articles/222412/sarah-geronimo-break-her-own-concert-records —Preceding unsigned comment added by White paladin888 (talkcontribs) 14:13, 15 March 2010 (UTC)
  • Okay, so I've completed the ce of the bulk of this article. I want to look at the credits section more closely, and then the lead needs to be re-written. Then that annoying, aforementioned tag can finally be removed. Finally, I'll have some thoughts and feedback, including the sources in this article and some structural issues. Thanks for your patience in how long it took me to finish. --Christine (talk) 06:26, 15 March 2010 (UTC)
Even if you finish it in 1 year, it's fine with me. hehehe..
Anyway, i think we should fixed everything that should be fixed in this article before adding another section which is "Products and endorsements". I think that section is needed for additional information as well. Not to mention, she has 30 plus endorsements from 2003-Present. —Preceding unsigned comment added by White paladin888 (talkcontribs) 14:21, 15 March 2010 (UTC)
Yah, one of the best things about this project is that there are no deadlines. For me, though, perhaps more would get done, since I seem to do better with 'em, since without deadlines I just keep procrastinating. So I impose self-imposed deadlines. ;)
I suggest writing the section in userspace, meaning a sandbox, before you add it to the article. this explains how to do that. --Christine (talk) 17:26, 15 March 2010 (UTC)
  • Ok, so now I'm working on the lead. I cut this line: The album became Geronimo's most successful album when it achieved Septuple (7x) platinum. You may have noticed that I cut out any reference to the gradations of album rating throughout the article, because to me as an ignorant reader (i.e., one who knows nothing about the music industry), an album making Septuple or 12x platinum means nothing to me. I think all we need to say is that her albums sold this many units and became platinum. Even I know that platinum's better than gold, so I think that conveys the message we want to convey. --Christine (talk) 05:24, 19 March 2010 (UTC)
Hmmm.. AGREE!! hehehehe... I wish I was good as you :)--White paladin888 (talk) 11:37, 19 March 2010 (UTC)
Hey! I remember that you asked me about the Philippine currency and you use PHP in the article because you can't find any sign of the said money. Here is it: PHP = ₱. Therefore, I suggest that we use the ₱ instead of PHP.--White paladin888 (talk) 12:29, 19 March 2010 (UTC)
Don't worry, sweetie; you're young, you have lots of time to get to be more like me. ;)
I went ahead and changed the PHPs. And you'll notice that I changed THE OVEN THING!!! Sorry, I'm in a weird mood--I get this way before going to Stations on Friday nights. Next, I will give you your assignments, as promised previously. --Christine (talk) 23:53, 19 March 2010 (UTC)

Assignments for White paladin888

Ok, so here are the promised assignments, that when completed, I feel will greatly benefit this article. They go beyond the copyedit I just completed. I think that they need to occur before this article is peer reviewed, and then submitted for GAC.

  • One of this article's current weaknesses is its sources. The first thing I want you to do is to make sure that the sources' format is consistent throughout. The format you use doesn't matter, but it has to be consistent. Pick one and go with it, but make sure they're accurate and has enough information. My favorite resource is WP:CT. I want you to make sure that each and every source follows the same exact format.
hmmm.. ok! I'll try to study this. But I can't promise to work this now, maybe next week.
I've started working the sources' format and I notice that the section "Childhood and early beginnings" has a 2 sources that repeats around 3-5 times, and these sources are source #8 and #10. Is there any problem if those sources repeats multiple times?--White paladin888 (talk) 13:48, 21 March 2010 (UTC)
It's perfectly acceptable to use the same source multiple times; that's what the "ref name=" tag is for. I noticed something for the first time, though--up until ref #25, the footnote convention is followed, but after that, the inline citation format is used. Perhaps you were converting it from one convention to the other. If so, please complete it. If not, you need to decide which format you're using, and make it consistent throughout. (I have a personal preference for the footnote system, but it's just a matter of taste and aesthetics; again, it doesn't matter what convention you use, but it must be consistent.)--Christine (talk) 05:24, 23 March 2010 (UTC)
  • There's an issue with the reliability of your sources. For example, as I've mentioned before, the subject's webpage isn't always the most reliable. If you can find a better source for the information, you should use it before a personal webpage. I suggest that for every bit of info you support with Sarah's site, you should do a google search and see if you can back it up with another more reliable source. For example: She was the third of four children, and had two sisters and one brother. I assume that the entire short paragraph this sentence is in is supported by Sarah's site. I'd bet that this is relatively easy to substantiate. Do a google search for "Sarah Geronimo family". Then do that for every source that's suspect.
I'll try to search about that.--White paladin888 (talk) 01:13, 21 March 2010 (UTC)
I found this site: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1402187/bio , I saw some articles (GA or even FA) that use "imdb" as a source but I'm not completely sure if I can use this site instead of Sarah's site as the source of her biography.--White paladin888 (talk) 14:40, 21 March 2010 (UTC)
I also wanted to ask if we can use the www.imdb.com as reliable source? because I notice that the past editors of this article use "imdb" as a source in some parts of the article.--White paladin888 (talk) 15:40, 22 March 2010 (UTC)
Good question. Wikipedia:Citing IMDb puts the reliability of IMdB into question. Understand, though, that it isn't policy. However, it looks like the website you mention is of "wiki-style", which is #4 in the "Inappropriate uses" section. Personally, I try to avoid IMDb, but there are times when it's appropriate. Not this one, though, I'm afraid, so you'll have to find another source. If you can't, I recommend keeping IMDd as a source, but I can tell you that it won't go through a review.

This brings up something else I forgot before. I think that this article could benefit from a thorough reference review. (BTW, I don't think that separating the headings in the reference section is standard.) I'd be willing to do that at some point; if you ever bring this to GAC, let me know, and I'll do it at that time. --Christine (talk) 05:38, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

  • Images. This article totally needs more images. Sometimes it's impossible to get good free ones, but I suggest that you at least try to find and include more. --Christine (talk) 05:00, 20 March 2010 (UTC)
Hmm.. I'm wondering, how will I know if the image is free of use? Because I only upload 3 images of her which is my own shots. I ask someone (since he/she contribute 2 amazing image in the article) if he/she can add more images and he/she said ok. But I hope that those images that he/she will upload are free of use.--White paladin888 (talk) 14:01, 21 March 2010 (UTC)
I recommend that you read WP:IUP. I have to admit that I am the wrong person to ask about if an image satisfies the free-use criteria. I've had some outstanding editors who are experts in the use of images on WP try and personally tutor me about it, and I have yet to comprehend it all. My brain is too puny for it, as Winnie the Pooh would say. At the same time, I think that if you took the pics yourself, they should be fine. I haven't looked at how you tagged those images, though. I recommend that you upload them to Commons. I also recommend that you get another smarter editor to review your images, like User:Awadewit. She's busy, but she's the image expert. --Christine (talk) 06:18, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

question

This is just a trivia question. I notice that her last name is the same as the name of a famous Native American leader. Does anyone know about the linguistics here? Is there some linguistic connection between pre-European Filipino language and Native American languages? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Skysong263 (talkcontribs) 15:20, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

The Philippines was under the Spanish rule for 333 years, until it was ceded by Spain to USA after the Spanish American War. Geronimo is a Spanish Surname. A majority of Filipinos have Spanish Surnames because of the panish rule. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.54.32.132 (talk) 11:15, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

Citation needed?

"She is the first Filipino artist to receive a platinum award for a DVD copy of her concert The Other Side in 2005 and is currently the only artist who has a platinum record for 4 DVDs of her concert. Her fourth one was awarded with triple platinum status in December of 2010." - the claim is a fact. It is a fact in the music industry here in the Philippines that she is the only Filipino artist to have a platinum selling dvd's of her concert. You can visit all the major record stores here and ask for it. It was stated before in a Television ASAP where she performs weekly for this fact. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kamikazee99 (talkcontribs) 09:25, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

Nonetheless many inflated claims about record sales are made. Platinum discs are generally documented by the awarding body. For this reason they are generally referenced. Note, by the way, that I did not add the citation needed tag. Rich Farmbrough, 21:24, 10 June 2011 (UTC).

Highly doubtful that her music encompasses "all genres"

The laudatory "Music and voice" subsection claims that her music encompasses "all genres", which is pretty dubious. Does she do black metal? What about polka? Or enka? Tigercompanion25 (talk) 17:04, 27 October 2015 (UTC)

It isn't surprising if you ask me. Most of them editors tend to be fans of the subject, and as such they would promote or extol their idol in a manner typical of them. Blake Gripling (talk) 08:12, 28 October 2015 (UTC)

ABS-CBN claim

I'm not sure the claim Premium "VVIP" tickets for Geronimo's March 2021 stage show 'Tala: The Film Concert' sold out in three days after going on sale sourced to ABS-CBN should be in the article. ABS-CBN is a media network but this appears to be a press release or promotional content. ABS-CBN owns KTX, the "online ticketing and streaming platform" where the tickets were sold and the film will be shown, along with iWantTFC, another platform to view the film. The "article" really only serves to promote ABS-CBN's own services, especially with statements like Regular tickets...are still available for purchase. Thoughts? Pinging Ohnoitsjamie, who restored the claim. Woodroar (talk) 16:30, 10 May 2021 (UTC)

I don't see how it's controversial to mention the subject's major tour in the article. I've removed the promotional flavors from the included text. As far as the source itself having some COI, you could probably make the same argument about a lot of media companies, but I don't think that automatically disqualifies them as a reliable source, especially in the context of simply confirming that a tour was held. Perhaps the bit about the premium tickets selling out is unnecessary. OhNoitsJamie Talk 16:33, 10 May 2021 (UTC)
I've refactored the entry with a difference source. Feel free to tweak it; it took me a few minutes to work out exactly what it was (an encore "screening" of a streaming concert from last year, I think?) OhNoitsJamie Talk 16:46, 10 May 2021 (UTC)
I think your version is fine, thank you! And yeah, it's a streamed film of a concert held before COVID lockdowns. Think "pay-per-view event", except ABS-CBN owns the sales and streaming platforms, so it's inherently interested in selling more tickets. Woodroar (talk) 16:52, 10 May 2021 (UTC)

Semi-protected edit request on 11 March 2024

Hi I would just like to update a newer and more relevant photo. Sarah Geronimo attended a historic award show and was honoured. (Billboard Women in Music). RollingVehicles (talk) 01:24, 11 March 2024 (UTC)

Not done: Please make your request for a new image to be uploaded to Files For Upload. Once the file has been properly uploaded, feel free to reactivate this request to have the new image used. Sincerely, Guessitsavis (she/they) (Talk) 01:26, 11 March 2024 (UTC)
Question, the photo I want is actually a screenshot from a YouTube video from the Billboard account. I don’t know if there’s any licensing from a publicly available video that I took the screenshot from 71.17.38.62 (talk) 17:03, 11 March 2024 (UTC)

Popstar Royalty nickname

Should it be capitalized or not? ScarletViolet (talkcontribs) 03:08, 16 March 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for bringing this to the talkpage.
Whether it should be capitalized or not depends upon whether it's considered a generic description (e.g., Meghan Markle is a "member of the royal family") vs. a specific appellation (e.g., Markle is the Duchess of Sussex). Calling someone "popstar royalty" isn't normally a title; however, the sources seem to capitalize it as if that phrase can refer only to Geronimo, which is weird, but sourced.
The bigger issue is the repeated reinsertion of the link to Honorific nicknames in popular music; that link shouldn't be used if Geronimo isn't part of the linked article. Using a link in that way is intended to explain or provide more information about something raised in the article (in this case, how Geronimo is part of a group of people with royal nicknames); instead, it leads to an article that doesn't even mention Geronimo. If/when Geronimo is added to the target article (and there is consensus that she belongs there), it would be okay to add that link. Grandpallama (talk) 16:33, 16 March 2024 (UTC)
