Move to "Schloßberg"[edit]
The spelling of Schloßberg was intentionally never updated alongside the spelling reform of 1996. The move to Schlossberg in 2017 wasn't discussed, and justified by the spelling on the official website - but as far as I can tell, every offical source calls it Schloßberg.
As it is a proper name, I think the article should be moved to Schloßberg (Graz), the spelling within the article changed and a disclaimer or small section explaining the spelling added. MaligneRange (talk) 08:59, 16 July 2023 (UTC)
- Can you point to any official source that spells it Schloßberg in English? I found graztourismus.at and steiermark.com, on both sites it's being called Schlossberg.

- The reason why people read about Schlossberg in English Wikipedia is probably that they aren't in command of German. Such readers aren't familiar with the letter ß either and probably don't even have it on their keyboards. It doesn't make sense to spell an article name with characters unknown to the reader. There are numerous examples how foreign names are spelled differently in English or even have different names in English: Giessen instead of Gießen, Strasbourg instead of Straßburg, Montreal (English) instead of Montréal (French), Cologne as opposed to Köln, Munich instead of München, Gothenburg instead of Göteborg, Nuremberg instead of Nürnberg, Copenhagen instead of København. - I don't think avoiding ß and Umlauts in Article names is that clear cut. Some mountains feature the ß (Weißkugel, Großvenediger) while others don't (Grossglockner). Same goes for cities (Göttingen) oder landmarks within cities (Nürnberg Hauptbahnhof).
- Seeing all the official English-language documents convinces me though, in that case keeping the <ss> spelling seems appropriate. I've made a slight edit to the introduction which I think is a tad more clear. MaligneRange (talk) 15:28, 19 July 2023 (UTC)
German Spelling[edit]
@Ralpe: Where did you find the information that the German spelling has been changed to "Schlossberg"? I can't find anything to back this up. MaligneRange (talk) 14:35, 5 August 2023 (UTC)
- I just came back from Graz. Must signposts were "Schlossberg", some "Schloßberg" if I remeber correctly. The official tourism website also has Schlossberg https://www.graztourismus.at/de/sightseeing-kultur/sehenswuerdigkeiten/grazer-schlossberg_shg_1480 . However, there seem to be someinconsistencies: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grazer_Schlo%C3%9Fberg#Eigenname Probably, it would be best, two have both spellings. - The official English spelling is "Schlossberg", see the discussion above. The official German spelling remains "Schloßberg", because it's a proper name. Some companies opt to use "Schlossberg" even in German, but that's independent of the official spelling, which hasn't changed. See for example the official map or this official bulletin.
