Were or Was?[edit]

The Scottish Horse were raised for the South African War in Johannesburg or The Scottish Horse was raised for the South African War in Johannesburg? Which is correct? Van Speijk (talk) 17:42, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Locally raised South African unit[edit]

While it is appropriate and pleasing that the British yeomanry regiment, the Scottish Horse claims decent from the Scottish Horse that existed between 1900 and 1902, the original Scottish Horse was a locally raised South African unit. The Victoria Cross awarded to Lt William English, 2nd Scottish Horse should be credited to South Africa and not to the British Army.
