Irish/Puerto Rican question[edit]

There are several major issues related to the addition of the "Irish immigration to Puerto Rico " see also which can be cleared up by reading the target article and also reading/watching the relevent references.

  1. Scotty McCreery himself is not an Irish immigrant to Puerto Rico. He was born in the United States, so he himself does not fit in that category.
  2. His father was also not an Irish immigrant to Puerto Rico. His father was born there.
  3. Neither of his fathers parents were Irish imigrants to Puerto Rico. His paternal grandfather was an American serviceman who was stationed in Puerto Rico during his military service, and his paternal grandmother was a native Puerto Rican, whose ancestry is not covered by any of the sources.

If anyone can identify, with a source, the member of Scotty McCreery's family that immigrated directly from Ireland to Puerto Rico (which is what the article itself is about) with source that identifies that, that's great. The fact that a) Scotty has an Irish-sounding last name (is it Irish or Scottish or Scotch-Irish? Do you have sources to verify which?!?) and b) His father was born in Puerto Rico does not mean any part of his family is confirmed to be Irish immigrants to Puerto Rico. Please stop adding unverified things to WP:BLPs. Its against the rules. --Jayron32 04:11, 23 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Somebody keeps adding that his grandfather was of Irish descent. But without any reference. Just because the name is Irish or sounds Irish doesn't really mean anything. Source needed. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 05:42, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request[edit]

Can someone add Category:People from Wake County, North Carolina? The article is semi-protected. Thanks. 198.228.195.156 (talk) 03:42, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, done. Killiondude (talk) 06:32, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

can someone verify his date of birth, on the article it says 1993 yet on the side bar it says 1994 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.246.40.173 (talk) 16:40, 12 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

youngest american idol winner??[edit]

scotty mccreery is not the youngest american idol winner! jordan sparks is still the youngest by approximately 2 months, 14 days! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bbmarion (talkcontribs) 18:49, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Jordan Sparks suggests otherwise. Killiondude (talk) 19:04, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Scotty McCreery is 2nd Youngest not the Youngest to win American Idol[edit]

Scotty McCreery was 17 in October, 2010, which makes him 17yrs and 7mths old as of the time he won on May 25, 2011. Jordin Sparks was 17 in December 2006, which made her 17 yrs and 5 mths old when she won on May 28, 2007. Therefore, Jordin Sparks is still the youngest winner and Scotty McCreery is 2nd youngest by 2 months.

New Photo for Scotty[edit]

I think that you should update your photo of Scotty so it shows him in the best way possible — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hannahmccreery (talkcontribs) 02:22, 27 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If you have one you took yourself that you are willing to freely license, that'd probably be the easiest way to go about it. I agree that the photo could be better, but it's also better than nothing. ;-) Killiondude (talk) 06:58, 27 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I did the best I could. I took this picture at the Garner parade while wrangling a 5 year old. If anyone wants to take a better picture with their own camera and upload it, please do. --Jayron32 03:46, 3 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I should note this IP always posts incorrect and false info. --Caldorwards4 (talk) 04:31, 9 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Christianity[edit]

Some editors are attempting to add info labeling McCreery as a Christian. This is misleading -- virtually all country singers are Christians, and many are assertive about it, but they are not generally labeled that way unless they sing substantial numbers of religious songs. In other words, calling Scotty a "Christian country singer" would carry an implication that he sings mainly Christian music, which is not correct. It would be more reasonable to add material to the article describing his attitude toward religion, if it can be supported by reliable sources (and I'm sure it can). Looie496 (talk) 16:30, 2 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Some well-meaning folks often want to "claim" celebrities, particularly young ones, as "one of them" (or else one of the "enemy"); so the "Christian" label is just an example of group adoption. There are probably documented instances where Scotty professed his personal faith in Jesus Christ as "Lord", meeting the requirements for contemporary Christianity, which then provides fans who have also done so a sense of legitimacy and comfort in knowing "he is one of us - the good ones". No offense to the Christian brethren, but let's try to stay encyclopedic and not crufty... — T-dot ( Talk/contribs ) 22:19, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Return to school[edit]

Could not find a reliable source to verify that Mr. McCreery "has returned to his home town high school, Garner Magnet High School, in Garner, N.C. to finish his senior year". There are sources that reported his appearance at the school's prom last May, but nothing about attending school. It is entirely possible that he has returned and is in daily attendance (between tour dates?), and 500 kids and teachers there know this, but no source found yet. Requested citation per BLP. — T-dot ( Talk/contribs ) 22:19, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

We don't accept youtube as a source, but this clip of an ABC News story should at least convince you that the statements are true, I think. Looie496 (talk) 16:28, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, but I don't need to be "convinced" of anything, and anyway it has nothing to do with "me". Policy demands a source of potentially questionable information, per Biographies of Living Persons to allow for verification. ABC News is an acceptable source if you can locate a link to a transcript or news article or something linkable and reasonably "permanent". — T-dot ( Talk/contribs ) 23:57, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Removed Refs[edit]

I've been cleaning up the article a bit and have noticed that several references don't actually support the claims that they are being used for. I don't want to lose track of them after removing them though, since they might have other information that could be useful. So I'll add them here.

  • blog.fmrealty.com - "Scotty McCreery: Our Very Own American Idol" [2]

Houston Lifestyles & Homes[edit]

I added this article [3] from the website for the magazine Houston Lifestyles & Homes as a reference. Unfortunately, the about section for the website [4] isn't very informative. But even if there's any doubt as to whether the website is a "reliable source" or not, the article itself should be fine. The author, Melanie Saxton, is clearly an established expert - see the about section of her own website here [5] --Jpcase (talk) 20:07, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Birth place?[edit]

Until recently the article has started that McCreery was born in Raleigh, North Carolina and he was raised in Garner, North Carolina. His birth place was changed based on the provided reference from Music News Nashville. I am not sure if it is a reliable source, but in my search I found websites that about 2:1 said Raleigh:Garner, but nothing that I would consider a reliable source. So I am not going to change it, but if someone is able to find reliable sources for Raleigh or better sources for Garner, it would be appreciated. Aspects (talk) 04:29, 12 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Removed new single[edit]

McCreery's single was originally supposed to be released July 13th. However, it has been pushed back by the label. There were no radio adds on the original date. The new single will most likely not be until September according to radio PD's who were given this information from his label. I removed "Southern Belle" since it's not released & there is a possibility this is not the single. Ptebwwong (talk) 06:30, 14 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
