Need for this page?[edit]

  • Disambig pages are supposed to disambiguate Wiki articles, not external articles! On the face of it as there is only one Wiki article with "sea patrol" in the title, there is no need for this page and it should be deleted. However it's just possible that there's sufficient use of the phrase 'sea patrol' in other wiki articles with titles to do with coast guards, coastal defences, customs and maritime security, to bring in entries to these wiki articles to justify its existence. • I tend to agree that this page does not seem to be necessary at present. Either way, I think the article for the Australian TV series Sea Patrol should be at this location. If this disambig page is to be kept, it should be relocated to Sea_Patrol_(disambiguation). DigitalAvatar 01:30, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • I have added some internal links. Anthony Appleyard 05:55, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nicknames[edit]

Can someone explain the nicknames, like Knocker for White etc..--109.91.72.35 (talk) 09:57, 8 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently in the Navy (Royal, Royal Australian, et al) there are several surnames that get a somewhat official nickname. Knocker White was a famous Thames tug, and thus anyone with a surname of White gets the nickname of Knocker. Some surnames are obvious -- Web becomes spider, Mulholland is shortened to Holland, which becomes Dutchy. I've seen other pages with a more complete, tabular list, but haven't been able to find them on a recent search. This site has some nicknames listed. http://www.exeterflotilla.org/history_misc/nav_customs/nc_customs.html DTavona (talk) 02:21, 12 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
